  • Hard News: Friday Music: Bring Back Boxes, in reply to Samuel Scott,

That's true, Ian did a lot of work to get the place sounding very good but there's been upgrades since as well and some good in-house sound guys - the latest to move to the area is Ron Kessels, a young Dutch bloke who flicks back to Europe to do sound/monitors for Sigur Ros, Radiohead etc. He's made some pretty average bands sound very good at the Cabana.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Bring Back Boxes,

Well if you're in Napier and there's something good on, The Cabana is a pretty good box venue. It also has a good PA and pretty lights. It does sometimes lack an audience though. I'm sure it'll be packed for your show next month Sam.

It would be a really good venue in Auckland or Wellington, and for the bands the load in/out is easy

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Scary Young,

I used to love the Silver scrolls nights but I don't get invited anymore, despite being a finalist twice. I don't remember doing anything to get me banned but the alcohol was free and i was young. I do remember it being a fun night though and i watched some of it via the Herald site last night.
Anyway, I'm still making music and there's a couple of preview tracks from the Golden Curtain album here if anyone's interested

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Dubious achievements,

Destiny in motion was an 80s minor hit but what's amusing is that both of them still want to be associated with it. OK, admitting you were part of SS at a party amongst friends so they can all have a light hearted chuckle at your expense, that would be ok, but beyond that i can't see why you'd want to be remembered for it.

Great photos. Thanks. I have found it hard to photograph our dog due to her being black, and fast...and me being a rubbish photographer. But, this photo I like. Coco was 6 months old then and is now just over 2 - she is still obsessed with tennis balls. This is the first dog either of us have owned. Should have done it sooner...although ask me that whilst she's exhibiting her "behavoural issues"

  • Hard News: Home Brewed,

Was that clip from the voice supposed to be like the master class section from master chef? Surely they didn't sit down after that and start judging the contestants? Please no.

I always liked that Levon played on this. It's such a recognisable style he had. His Daughter is on backing vox I believe too. Garth Hudson also played on the album

was a cymbal. Now a cymbal that's been cut into a spiral. It actually sounded pretty cool. In fact she played a lot of cool instruments - Harmonium, bass pedals, guitar and various percussion items. A real highlight of the day I reckon, although the sound was less than grand on that stage until Mr Carter got it sorted at the end.
