  • Hard News: Where do you get yours? (Food…, in reply to Raffe Smith,

Lastly, very recently opened is Hopscotch Beer Co in Eden Tce, who have a dozen different craft beers on tap to fill your flagons from. $10/L for NZ, $15/L for imports. Yum, and amazing value.

Thanks for the tip - just went up there and grabbed a couple of litres for the weekend.

The 57 Ford Custom 300 I owned in 2001. It was heavily inspired by the 57-58 Fords that were around when I was a teenager.

Model A Hot Rod, Austin TX, 2009 (not my pic, my wife took it).

Cool to see some other photos from the series!

Like Joe, I also bought the NZ Photoforum mag with the shots from the original exhibition back in 1977 and still have it.

My older sister and her boyfriend spent a lot of time cruising Queen St in that period and I went along with them a few times - I was about 14 at the time and remember it fondly.

She quickly sold it for a Mk 10 Zephyr (I think it was a Mk 10) automatic that could truly fly – the 1st vehicle I ever did a ton in-

Cool, a thread I can contribute to - even if it's only to point out that Zephyrs came in Mk 1 through 4 versions only.

The Super Snipes were lovely old cars and very solidly built, which sadly contributed to their demise as many ended their days being bashed to pieces in demolition derbys.

  • Hard News: A Capital Idea?, in reply to JackElder,

In at least some cases it's not so much delibrately setting the rent at a lower level to make a loss and more that the property costs so much that the maximum rent you could reasonably get still makes a loss.

But you are right that it is the expectation of making a capital gain down the track that drives investors to buy in that situation.

  • Hard News: A Capital Idea?, in reply to JLM,

You might be thinking of Labour's Property Speculation tax from 1973 that taxed profits from property speculation at 90% if sold within 2 years?

It was repealed by National in 1979.

  • Hard News: Where nature may win,

On Nat Radio Checkpoint last night Marie Wilson spoke to John Urosek at the US Mine Safety and Health administration about their robot.

He stated that it has previously been used with a 3000ft fibre-optic control cable (just under 1 km), which would only reach halfway down the entrance tunnel at Pike River.

They were in the process of testing a longer cable so that it could be deployed further into the mine.

B&B didn't put up any electorate candidates, so didn't take electorate votes from anyone.

There were 81 party votes for B&B in Auckland Central.
