  • Hard News: In The Green Room, in reply to Alex Coleman,

I agree the torture of that nice Mr Key has been terrible.

  • Hard News: A voice of reason and authority,

Interesting that if one follows your link to the pseudoephedrine article it comes back with a 404 error. Is your link wrong or are the powers that be reacting by removing article??

  • Hard News: Imagining Auckland: no…,

I think I would rather go the other way for Local Government. It seems to me that all the things that we now appreciate were done by the smaller councils like Mt Eden, New Market, or over on North Shore councils like East Coast Bays. These are councils that were small and active and built most of the Infrastructure that we are still using eg libraries, swimming pools sports grounds.
So if there is going to be a change I think I would like to go back to smaller councils reflecting their own area. I realise that some activities need to be shared to reduce costs but that could be worked out with a modified ARA.
Also I really do not care to hand over our sewage and water to WaterCare Service. I cannot think of a worse body to look after these services.

  • Hard News: The joke that went too far,

Twinings Darjeeling is available in the UK shop Browns Bay. However there are other good Tea Merchants around. AHa in The Stables in Elliot Street, Chapters in Mt Eden. Chapters have a very wide range of Teas and of course you can partake on premises and read a magazine or even buy a book. great place Sunday mornings to read the papers etc

  • Hard News: The joke that went too far,

Mmm I think I am more interested in the connection between Slater and Kitchin. It makes me distrustful of other Kitchin writings.
Also interesting is the relationship between Slater senior/junior and the National Party. I was under impression that there was little love lost between Slater(s) and Party. Maybe time wounds all heels or something like that

On the subject of coffee there is nothing wrong with a blade grinder if you do it in short pulses. Of course I am talking about properly made coffee and not using one of those stupid steam locomotive devices.

  • Hard News: Awesome,

For those that haven't seen Michelle's speech you can see them all on silverlight.net and also get a look at Clinton's speech today on same site. I am really glad that Clinton did not get the nomination and viewing her speech reinforces that view

  • Hard News: Rain on his parade,

Regardless of ones likes or dislikes of Crow's parade I think the need to describe women's breasts as awesome says a lot about the writer.
And while on subject did I read somewhere that Crow has a BSc in marine biology or similar discipline.

  • Hard News: Relieving Ambiguity,

DPF's mob have built the disbanding of the Serious Fraud Office into their standard paranoia model of political interpretation -

So I am REALLY looking forward how they digest this...

Oh come one. That is really unfair The former member of the DHB is a friend of the former minister. What is the point of having friends if it doesn't work for you when you need it..

  • Hard News: Radio Times,

I think Sunday Morning is still worth listening to - if only for the nice snippets from Dougal Stevenson (!) and 'Insight'. My only lament is the loss of Tom Frewen and Max Cryer for coverage of Parliament and etymology respectively.

Well despite Russell's reservation you can get both Frewin and Max on 'Live' courtesy of Graeme Hill. Hill arguably would be the best coverage on Radio in New Zealand. His wide range of interests leave hosts like 'Hill' for dead. How refreshing to have a host that not only is interested in his guests but can ask intelligent questions which were not prepared in advance by a producer.
Now if we could just convince Mitch to use Graeme a bit more often say on 9:00 - noon weekdays???

  • Hard News: New Sky,

Russell, if I understand this correctly, the cost to upgrade to HD for people with the current digital box, which is most people, will be $599 plus $10 a month on the subscription?

I think I saw in Russell's original item that the new MySky has three tuners in it. Was that correct. If so it is a great improvement on the current MySky as if you are recording two channels you cannot use the EPG it obviously needs exclusive use of one card for itself
