That's exactly right. The copyright regime the US is trying to shove down everybody's throats is almost identical to the one in the Australian FTA.
The extra 20 years for copyright after death has been estimated to cost Australia about $88 million a year. They'll also be able to veto parallel importing.
It's actually really appalling stuff once you look into it.
It’s a job that requires very specific skills in handling victims without re-traumatising them
I think that’s a really important point. There’s been a bit of a lynch mob mentality that’s broken out – which I completely understand – but we need to remember that our first worry should be the victim’s welfare.
The post I had sent to me anonymously yesterday broke my heart. And I’ve seen some shit. It made me sad about New Zealand and made me take a look at a few things I thought were truths. How we’re raising our boys seems to be creating some problems. As the writer wrote It’s not necessary to sexualise women in the media and portray men as masculine fucking machines with no emotion
Maybe we should start with teaching people that implied consent – or even consent – is not enough. Sexual congress must be met with enthusiasm from both parties otherwise just fucking don’t.
The thing I've found disappointing, is the glee with which people have taken to ridiculing Wewege's name. many of us have had a good titter about it haven't we? Hilary Barry even giggled over it when she was covering it for 3News.
Except we were ropeable when Paul Henry made fun of Sheila Dikshit's name.
And I get that Ms Dikshit didn't do anything wrong, and Wewege allegedly did, but that doesn't give us license to ridicule someone for something cultural.
Alternative medicines are a worry yes, but I have one or two concerns re the Greens' environmental policies to be honest. The party said it would endorse the Parliamentary Commissioner into the Environment's report into fracking once it was complete. Well it came out and said that fracking was manageable and could be done fairly risk-free.
This did not result in support from the Greens.
Who pays for porn? Seriously? If you don't know how to use the internet then I don't want you as my Prime Minister.
It was TV3 that ran the "biggest poll ever" wasn't it about spying on our personal lives? And 89% of people didn't want the GCSB to have more abilities to spy on New Zealanders.
Because .... ummm .... yeah.
John Campbell would be spinning in his grave.
I don't know why this is surprising.
taking credit for the law as it was during the previous government
They've blamed the previous Government for all of the cock-ups, so why wouldn't they take credit for the positive things?
And I use "positive" in the loosest way possible.
Those operatic political speeches really elevate political satire to a cultural high point don't they?
I'm not sure whether "New Zealanders aren't ready for a gay leader" is actually true, but we may find out.
Well I'm ready for a gay leader. If he's the best leader. But I think in terms of squaring off against Key, Cunliffe's the best bet.
Can someone explain the popularity of Ardern? I haven't really seen her do anything spectacular. I have no doubt of the potential, but has she delivered yet? Robertson the same actually.
