In June, Public Address helped the Fabians with an event called The Voyage of a Lifetime, which aimed to present important economic ideas in an accessible, social setting. It really worked: a capacity 400 people filled Auckland's Q Theatre on a Sunday to hear the speakers, then stuck around afterwards to share a drink and discuss what they'd heard.
Well, we're bringing the show to Wellington. On Sunday, November 4 at Downstage Theatre, I'll introduce Bernard Hickey, Rod Oram, Selwyn Pellet, Arena Williams, Rick Boven and John Walley, who will give updated versions of the short talks they delivered in June.
You can read their profiles here, and get a taste of the themes direct from the speakers via these previews:
The Voyage: Full Steam ahead by Rick Boven on the Voyage of a Lifetime
All aboard: The choice for young New Zealanders by Arena Williams
The Voyage: The Engine Room Dilemma - All Hands Below Deck by Bernard Hickey
The Voyage: On Interpreting and Sending Messages From the Deck by Rod Oram
The Voyage: Dutch Disease – Fatal to Innovation by John Walley
But mostly, you can get in and secure your free ticket. The 400 went very quickly in Auckland, and we only have room for 200 in Wellington. I think the economic analysis on that is pretty clear.
