  • Robyn Gallagher,

I'm surprised at how normal everything looks in the photos (well, apart from the 'no guns' sign). I guess everyone's just getting on with their everyday lives amid all the crap.

That was a very interesting read. Keep safe, dude.

  • Jackie Clark,

Indeed, Damian. Here, in NZ, we all take our safety somewhat for granted. Which may be why so many Kiwis go to places where safety isn't guaranteed. I look forward to more photos and dispatches from your sojourn.

  • stephen clover,

the passengers around me took seeing Kabul a thousand feet below as a sign to get out their cellphones and start calling friends on the ground.

Perhaps they were calling their friends to tell them about the crazy westerner who was giggling and bouncing in his seat with excitement.

  • Rebecca Williams,

now that i'm the (adoring) mother of one small person who may or may not survive the type of extensive back-packerish activities i have previously enjoyed, i relish living vicariously through other's travel blogs ..... cheers and keep it up!

Yeah, and you know, I reckon anywhere I can still update my Facebook status can't possibly be remote or dangerous enough. But I'm about to head into the absolute hinterland of Afghanistan, so wish me luck.

(and I'll try and keep the bouncing and giggling to a minimum :)
