  • giovanni tiso,

What - I just found out about this and they're already closing it down?! That's a dead shame. A dead, crying shame.

I have to say though that

cheeky to the point of precocious

may not mean what you think it means. Unless we're talking about an infant cricketer.

  • Rich of Observationz,

I thought Dave Podmore was in semi-retirement as the paid pro of Little Pissingham.

Yeah you're right, though precocious is the attitude I get from it. "Arrogance" seems like too harsh a word

  • LegBreak,

Latest rumour is that a player (not from the Knight Riders, but from the Punjab Kings) has been sacked from the team and police charges pending.

No-one takes themselves more seriously than Modi and his IPL.

Having said that, the rumour is probably fake as well, which is all part of the intrigue.

Precocious is a good word to describe the writing HG. Sums up the new generation of Indian cricketer perfectly.

  • Hadyn Green,

Sorry to break from my own topic, but this is a crazy story from the weird world of MLBaseball:

Bizarre scene last night in Toronto, as Texas pitcher Darren O’Day got into the Jays/Texases game but wore someone else’s NOB [ Name On Back of uniform ].

O’Day had been claimed on waivers earlier in the day and had just arrived in Toronto during the eighth inning of the game (I think he stopped along the way for some poutine), but they didn’t have a jersey for him, so he had to wear Kason Gabbard’s No. 30 jersey (which was apparently laying around even though Gabbard is now in triple-A).

Naturally, O’Day promptly gave up the game-winning hit. There’s excellent coverage of this incident, including some good video, here

  • Kyle Matthews,

    That's not crazy.

Crazy is NHL players as their teams approach team deadline day.

Sometimes they have their morning skate with their team on game day. After the skate they go back to the changing room where the GM stops them and tells them they've been traded. And then they find out it's the team they were to play that night.

So they have to pack up their gear, walk down the corridor to the other changing room, and introduce themselves to their new team. "Hey guys, I'm swapping sides."

Newly-acquired guy toko the field wearing somebody else's shirt? Gave up the game winning-hit?! OMG!!!! I think I'm going to faint...

Seriously, you and I have a very different threshold of "weird" and "crazy".

  • giovanni tiso,

There is obviously something in the fascination with sports uniforms that I'm missing. It may be cultural: Italian soccer teams always lament that unlike their Spanish and English counterparts they cannot count on the huge revenue from kit sales because people will just buy the 10 euro knock-offs instead of the 120 euro originals. I always took it to be a rare sign of elightenment from my compatriots.

  • Hadyn Green,

Seriously that you don't think it's weird that a guy shows up in the 8th inning of a 9 inning game, goes out to pitch (with a catcher he's never worked with) in a shirt of a guy who doesn't play for that team any more? Is that a normal thing in football and cricket?

But please please, cricket: A bunch of players are going to a 20/20 league that's going to be held in New York in October. That totally makes sense.

  • Kyle Matthews,

    No that's not weird:

Washington Capitals Web Site producer, who played third tier ice hockey as a college student, suited up and warmed up for the Washington Capitals in their game vs Ottawa Senators last December, and then sat on the bench for the first period as backup. Their #1 goaltender was injured, and their third option couldn't get to the game until the 2nd period. So the web site producer warmed up and sat as backup for the goalie, Johnson, who was carrying a hip injury and was complaining about it as warm up. Sadly (though not for the Captials) Leonhardt didn't get any game time.

They still spanked us 5-1. Probably could have afforded to give him some ice time.

  • Rich of Observationz,

In Polo you can play in multiple different teams in separate tournaments.

Since they have several simultaneous tournaments, and a handicapping scheme that encourages a mix of different ability players on the same team, a player can play with and against the same person in one afternoon.

The only restriction is that you normally can't switch teams in a tournament.

No, but then they don't have transfer windows like that. All the same, I've seen taped up names on soccer shirts or numbers made up with tape when a team ran out of shirts. And in cricket of course we had McGarth.

Ahem. This would be the time to talk about my Anaheim Ducks being 2-1 up over the Presidents Trophy winning San Jose Sharks?

(no I don't want to hear about game four's result, I'll hopefully be downloading it tonight)

On top of my usual reasons to support any team that plays against Pronger, this time I have the additional one that Ottawa traded a SJ first round pick for Campoli, with the assumption that it would be a very late pick indeed. It would be pretty outrageous if they got kicked out in the first round.

I thought we had done quite enough by sending Redden to the Rangers.

  • Sam M,

I am so confused. Is it a fake blog with made up facts or is it a real blog by an actual IPL cricketer? The way it is talked about it is real, but it is called a fake.

I think I need another coffee

  • LegBreak,

    Sam M,

The blog is written by a real person pretending to be a fake IPL player.

The fake IPL player may actually be a real IPL player because of the content, or he/she may be a real journalist or a real support staff person. Or indeed the fake IPL player may be none of these, may even be based in India, but getting information from any combination of the real people above.

The Fake IPL Player appearing on twitter is a fake fake IPL player; the writing style is different.

So that’s a double fake and should be ignored.

Over the last day 2 real players from the Knight Riders have been dropped from the squad. This has led to speculation that these reall players are in some ways connected to the fake IPL player.

OR it could be because they can’t score any runs.

Secrecy surrounds this though; there’s been no official comment so it’s hard to tell how fake or real that bit is.

I hope that’s cleared it up.
