  • Tim Michie,

Also why doesn't anyone care about socks?

    Because they can't keep up?

Sorry. Friday. I know where the door is.

  • Dan Slevin,

The new Black Caps uniforms will be without the unusual "robo-boobs" across the front.

Oh, thank Christ, that's the best news of the week.

Let's hope they get rid of the sailor-suit test match shirt too.

Us ice hockey people care about socks. Can't play ice hockey without socks over your pads. Over the summer I'm going to go shopping for about 50 pairs of socks like this (like this on the players]].

Yeah, but when you hang them on the washing line your flatmates are all "ooo, Amy's got legwarmers".

Ah see that's where you went wrong. Washing and ice hockey gear don't really go together.

  • JackElder,

This may sound naive, but what's the big deal about sublimation printing? I have a whole drawer of sublimated cycle tops.

    HG,

    You’re the expert.

Has there ever been a worse strip, in any sport, than what the North Queensland Fury turned up in over the weekend?

  • Gareth Ward,

Did they really pay $2b for Canterbury Europe? Because JD's market value prior to that was something like $700m so that's a massive purchase.
Also, they got the brand goodwill etc for $11m. To then pay $2b for the stores and operations seems amazing.

Norwich City have their work cut out for them in making a strip look good, but the 1992 was a doozy. mind you, there's a lot of competition.

BTW, the Herld reprinted this from the Observer this morning, which is an interesting take on the business of football.

Virgin Money's Football Fans' Inflation Index indicates that, this season, prices for diligently following a team have risen 15.1 per cent year-on-year.

  • Allan Moyle,

Reading the Observer link above couldn't help but think a similar thing is happening here in NZ with more people making the NPC their live rugby fix.

It is cheaper, people seem to feel more connected to it, in part due to their provincial identity they carry around or have selected and there are even games in the afternoon, quelle horreur.

Sorry, was on holiday. Have done the Bolt post and rugby post to come soon. Don't worry I've got plenty of gloating to get in before BOP finally lose one

  • Hadyn Green,

And to finally respond to questions:

This may sound naive, but what's the big deal about sublimation printing?

It's cheap and you can make lots of practice gear and stuff for fans

Has there ever been a worse strip, in any sport, than what the North Queensland Fury turned up in over the weekend?

Yes, but that is definitely up there. It made me think of lime flavoured cocktails (which isn't all bad).

By those unis Paul linked to, highlight a very good rule: never make a uniform out of a Magic Eye image.

$2b in NZD, it was a smaller amount in Euros I imagine.
