  • Craig Ranapia,

Oh come on, Simon, do you really think Wayne Peters is in the habit of answering his brother's cellphone and impersonating him for a jolly wheeze?

Craig, where did I suggest that? Please don't put words in my mouth.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Well, Simon, unless DPF is actually lying about what what happened in the Select Committee perhaps the "predictable line" crack was out of order.

  • simon g,

Where is the evidence from Owen Glenn that

    a) Mike Williams brokered the deal between Peters and Glenn?

    b) Clark is somehow implicated in this?

Glenn had every incentive to dish the worst of dirt on Labour today. But he has said only that Peters approached him for a donation, and Glenn then checked with Williams, who did not object (why would he?). All this, of course, long after the confidence and supply agreement was in place.

The line that this was all some nefarious Labour/Clark plot has not been supported by today's evidence - in fact, the opposite.

That was certainly my reading of DPF quotes.

*But*, I still think the most interesting aspect of this is, as Russell has stated, the implications for funding of political parties and the precedence being set for investigating political funding.

A propos of nothing, does anyone else remember those "I've been Thinking" books Richard Prebble used to publish? For some reason the came out just before a general election.

Oh yes I certainly do; they turned up uninvited in the letter boxes of every Wellington resident lawyer, accountant or auditor (plus I'm sure other "professionals" too) in 1996 (or 99?) with an offer to remit payment... I carefully filed mine.

Bother Jimmy Stewart and Kate Hepburn, the Guardian at the weekend revealed that Cheeta is still alive! Yes, that Cheeta, the one that acted with Johnny Weissemuller. He's 76 and living in Palm Springs (where else?)

"O he started to climb out of the hole. He pulled with his front paws, and pushed with his back paws, and in a little while his nose was in the open again ... and then his ears ... and then his front paws ... and then his shoulders ... and then-'Oh, help!' said Pooh, 'I'd better go back,' 'Oh bother!' said Pooh, 'I shall have to go on.' 'I can't do either!' said Pooh, 'Oh help and bother!' ...

Thank you, Andrew. That passage (ooh, err) was part of the reading at Canterbury Uni's Orientation Fest I mentioned nostagically to Robbery a few weeks back. I had no idea just how laden with innuendo kids books were until that momentous eve. Don't tell the Australians.

I felt the same way over the Sarah Palin thing.

A whole heap of people who'd never heard of her only days before formed extraordinarily vehement views about her very very quickly.

Um, Rob, with all due respect my vehemence towards Palin was based on the yawning void of, oh, substantive experience or policy views (as opposed to Oprah-lite bullshit about the Hockey Mom with a retarded baby and Pitbull Pink lipstick). Pardon me for taking the McCain campaign spin at face value, and having damn good reasons not to like what I saw.

By the way: Could someone explain to me why, in Word, whenever I type 'Large Hadron' it gets auto-corrected to 'Large Hard-On'? Apart from the facts that I'm a perv and Micosoft is evil.

So, if today is it, I will still spend the day trying to save a 70yrish old English Oak tree that is outside my lounge window on the border of our property. It deserves to live.Neighbour doesn't think so. Got a sneaky consent, and now they can chop 2. I'll go away now. Grrrrr

That sounds very Arthur Dent, Sophie. I suggest you drees for the occasion in a dressing gown.

(I know a planner who might be able to help, if it's not too late, which I suspect it might be)

  • dc_red,

Sofie - having applied for one of these consents myself, one of the first requirements is gaining the approval of affected neighbours. I take it this didn't happen?

I assume this provision applies in Akld City as much as in Waitakere.

Could I be the Minister responsible for large hadrons collisions? I think I have some expertise there -- or at least an interest. :)
