  • Kumara Republic, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

Boo-fucking-hoo. I do hope Mrs. Collins will deputise a flunky to read the various disobliging things I've said about her on Public Address Radio. Her contempt would be a badge of honour.

I just hope she files a gagging order against PAS, just to prove whose moral credibility is still intact. She could shut down websites faster than you can say doubleplusungood, but she won't shut down ideas.

  • Hilary Stace,

Just a reflection. When I first came across the US autism hate websites, I couldn't really believe that they would/could exist. Reflecting on Laws, I realise those views are here in our midst. Why is he so angry and frightened?

  • Islander, in reply to Hilary Stace,

Having had the misfortune to read his only work of fiction - and a selection of his columns - I've come to the conclusions that
    1:he gets off on hate & he truly believes in talkback radio;
2:he thinks - or hopes- that his words will ingratiate him with/to 'powerful' people
    because
3: he realises that he is never going to be the mover & shaker he thought he was
    destined to be, and
4: he utterly despises us lefty pc bleedingheart liberal wankers because
5: only he - and the people he kowtows to - know 'the realities of Life' which are
6: eat or be eaten in a true market-driven capitalist environment.

Now, I think I'll go cleanse my head with a good single malt. Kia ora, kempei, slurrrp!*

    I totally agree Hilary.

  • Kracklite,

t might surprise Kracklite that getting his one vote on 26 November is not more important than that of any of the other 3 or so million voters in NZ. The left is about collective struggle to improve the lot of the less powerful, as well as society in general, not individualism.

Thank you Hilary for your patronising sneers and disingenuous diversions, which I have come to expect, but get this:

IT IS NOT ABOUT MY FUCKING INDIVIDUAL VOTE.

You might note that I have not made this about autism – you have. By implication, you suggest that a focus on autism, that you have concocted, invalidates any discussion of this in the superior interests of some vague strategy of gaining power in November. Lovely.

Its is about the rights of all of us. It is about the rights of all of us not to be subject to intimidation under the cover of authority. It is about an alleged “opposition” that finds populism an easy strategy.

I’d like to see a party that stands up for universal democratic principles.

    Is that “individualism”?

As Hilary notes, Grant Robertson walks the walk on autism issues. He’s for real.

Unfortunately, he’s been let down by his leader’s peculiar talent for stumbling onto the wrong side of moral and political issues.

Sorry Russel, that may be so, but so far, I’ve heard not a peep of follow-up from him and I’m not sure if he really is walking the walk.

… and if it is about “individualism”, then obviously Hilary considers me expendible in the name of class war. Thank you very much for that clarification. I really do feel a Godwin coming on, or at least a Niemöller.

  • Kyle Matthews,

That, frankly, is a despicable misrepresentation and trivialisation. If Labour does not stand up for habeus corpus, then we all are pawns in their game of power-seeking.

I have no problem with Labour standing up for that and many other things. Just not sure that Labour should decide to make this young man the centre-piece of their campaign without his consent. Someone commented that he'd already decided not to lay an official complaint and presuming that was a free and informed decision on his part, I hope everyone would respect that.

Sorry Russel, that may be so, but so far, I’ve heard not a peep of follow-up from him and I’m not sure if he really is walking the walk.

I've never heard him renounce that he beats up his "wife" either.

I think you're extending the responsibility of a MP for Central Wellington on events that took place in Christchurch a tad too far, especially when he's made one statement on the matter, which is practically about all he can do.

Hello Kyle, maybe so, but it's a statement, whether Grant appreciates it or not, that touches on a far deeper matter. If you speak of the Devil...

  • Islander,

Pretty feeble effort when you're tqking a lav to your great aunts when they have the family disease of arthritis and simply CANT,squat - it's just the best you can give at this time-
    actually, can I rave?
These family people live in Aranui and North Beach: through concerted family efforts, they now can shit in their own homes, and do have additional water. BUT
-initially, that was only from extraordinary family effort. As was the additional food, and bottled water. AND, it only continues because we all really complained.

  • Kracklite, in reply to Islander,

Nope, that doesn’t wash. Sorry. What you do for family, friends, strangers even… what you do because you think you must do because you must because there’s no alternative. I’ve read the biographies of plenty of heroes. OK, so you weren’t dodging bullets, but nonetheless, that’s the essence of heroism.

True, and I understand the kinds of pressure Arie must be under on this matter. It needn't be about him, or be presented as concerning a "disposable minority".

However, there has been a recently well-publicised report on how well the police are responding to Dame Bazley's inquiry - and that is very badly indeed. Both Howard Broad and Greg O'Connor have both been defensive and dismissive - the former blandly, the latter complaining on Morning Report that the police have too much real work to do to worry about secondary issues like their conduct, silly little things like rape, sexism, assault and so on. He just painted a big target on himself there, but Phil Goff took aim at his own foot.

  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Hilary Stace,

Why is he so angry and frightened?

Hilary: Honestly, I’ve wondered that for a very long time. I’ve seen fairly close up what a vindictive little skid-mark he can be – all directed at people he thinks can’t, or won’t, fight back.

Someone commented that he’d already decided not to lay an official complaint and presuming that was a free and informed decision on his part, I hope everyone would respect that.

Kyle: Yes I can. But as a citizen and a tax-payer, this just isn't good enough. I know O'Connor and his ilk loves to dismiss every critic of the Police as crim-coddling "cop-haters". Bovine excrement to that. I respect the Police officers of my acquaintance enough to know they're better than this, they see the worse every damn day and do so with honour and integrity. They sure as hell deserve real leadership.

  • Hilary Stace,

In my experience bullies are often angry and frightened as there is a scared little child in there who (for a variety of reasons) never learned appropriate social skills or behaviour, so they don't know how to make friends or influence people any other way. If I was a good humanist I would look past the behaviour and respect that there is a human underneath trying to get out, but sometimes it is hard.

Btw I am finding Kracklite just a little threatening. Perhaps he should stop attacking me and concentrate on forming a Kracklite Party to contest the general election.
