  • Tomorrowpeople,

    LOL - Ponies.

Can we have Bart Cummings train the little fella?

  • Tomorrowpeople,

I agree - did you hear Bolger give a very glowing account of Helen on Sunday?

Being the chairman of Kiwi Bank certainly has lifted him up in my estimation.

Gotta guy the guy his dues.

As for the likes of Shipley - I'm sure if any National Party supporter saw her on the telly on Sat and didn't know who she was, they would have most likely thought she (looked) like one of those Labour Party dykes!

    LOL

  • Russell Brown,

Speaking of which, for reasons I can't figure out, I spent five minutes skim-reading his poisnous, ugly and downright rotten Absolute Power at a bookshop one day (as I said, don't ask why). I noticed that the most outlandish of its claims were dutifully footnoted. I then noticed that the footnotes referenced articles he had written in the past.

Oh, if only I could've pulled that stunt during my academic life...it certainly would've made my life a lot easier.

There was a most amusing thread on Poneke where Danyl McLachlan quoted back Wishart's citations from Brian Edwards' bio of Clark -- which, let's say, didn't exactly back up the claims he made ...

    Wishart, naturally, carried on obliviously.

In a way, a leader like Clark has to wear this sort of nuttiness -- it does go with the job. Where I think Wishart marked himself as a nasty little brute was his pursuit of the private citizens he wrote into his lesbian commie conspiracy theory. Any shred of decency pretty much went into the mulcher there.

Curiously, he still struggles to blurt out more than a sentence or two before making some sort of verbal blunder or egregious offence against the laws of grammar.

And yet he managed to be PM for seven years. Curious. Bodes well for Key, too.

  • Tomorrowpeople,

Well, I wouldn't go that far but eloquent he has never really been.
As a PM I did not rate him a bit - I think he's much better in these types of roles.

OK which of the 6,000 Public Servants are going to get the chop?

And, will they all end up on the dole/move to Australia, therefor increase the unemployment figures in NZ and/or the so-called exodus to Oz?

Won't be a good look for National.

And, if you think you have a hard time now getting to speak to someone in a Govt. Dept......

It'll probably take you 6 months to get a passport now - lol

Footnote; the 60 Minutes piece last night on TV3 about Aussie moving to Oz.
Funny how it got played AFTER the election.
Something like 14,000 Aussies moved here last year?
    Hmmmm.

  • Tomorrowpeople,

I heard Key wants to start saving money at the top end.
They are selling back the BMWs and getting a 'City Hopper' Daihatsu Sirion.
Only one car though - and they have to book in advance to use it.
As they will have fired the Public Service members responsible for Ministerial cars it means each booking has to be 8 months in advance.
Otherwise it'll be walking or public transport for MPs (no credit given to the Greens of course - the Greens didn't invent legs did they. Or trains).

    a 'City Hopper' Daihatsu Sirion

I will say, speaking from experience, that they are surprisingly roomy inside! How many MPs could we fit into one?

If they weren't thoroughly pickled in bitter crazy juice, you betcha.

    So what's that? 50/50 odds then? ;)

Case in point, a few threads ago Kyle wished that someone would start an inquiry based for once entirely on non-partisan desire to protect our democracy. It wouldn't have done him any harm to have wished that everyone get a pony too

Oh look, now you've gone and blown it. Once you asked for the pony, it'll never happen!

Whale Oil finishes by adding to ACT's list that Roger Douglas be the head of the "Razor gang", establishing an independent anti-corruption commission and a "Commissioner of Unions to ensure open, transparent, accountable trade unions operate in the best interests of their members."

Wow, that sounds like a bunch of fun. Open warfare between the bureaucrats/unions on one side, and the government on the other.

OK which of the 6,000 Public Servants are going to get the chop?

The figure I heard on radio yesterday was a reduction from 42,000 to 36,000 under National. It said it was National policy. Which I thought I would have heard more about before the election, if it's true.

  • snort,

Act seems to now be propping up the decomposing carcass of a zombie called Rodger that was once a LABOUR gnome.Cleverest thing the Nats could possibly do is draw the Maori Party closer right now.
Pita Sharples as we have seen is VERY astute and absolutely honourable in these situations.
The sense that the Nats could tell Act to go away because they don't actually need their help adds a certain subtle excitenment to the negotiations.
Can't imagine Rodders is THAT keen to frighten people with their pet zombie in any case.

8,000 jobs - F**K me that is a lot of chopping!

Where are they going to get jobs?
    Real estate?
    Building?
    Finance companies?

The PSA must be very worried.

How many golden handshakes will there be?
Will National's policy of assisting those who get get laid off from tough economic times be available to these people?
    Uh no.

Let's do some numbers on redundancy costs, 'handshake' costs and unemployment benefit costs for 8,000 people and see how much that out ways any savings.

Isn't that a heartwarming story? Just in time for Christmas. I thought National had promised to cap the public service, not decimate it. (Actually, come to think of it, 1 in 7 is considerably worse than decimation.) And presumably, they'll need to employ a large gaggle of (v. cheap, natch) management consultants and efficiency experts to work out who gets 'let go'. Perhaps Key himself could lead the gang, seeing the courageous work he did in this regard for Merrill Lynch in the '90s.

  • Tomorrowpeople,

    HEY!

Anybody think about this - it's a lineage of Wishart proportions:

    Pony = 'Po=ney'
    John Key = 'John=Key'

    Then you do this:
    John Key = 'Don=Key' = 'DONKEY'

    Pony & Donkey!!!

    Don't you see it????!!!!!!

AND if you add the numbers up you get '666' - numbers of the beasts!!!!!

See what happens when you ask for a Pony????

    Quick call Wishart NOW.

Or will they be seen as a waste of public money?

  • Caleb D'Anvers,

Let's see, what else could National do to save money? I think we can all agree that the Beehive and Parliament Buildings are far too expensive to maintain and should be scrapped. Instead, perhaps everyone could move into Key's house in Parnell. It looks big enough, and what's more it's well secured (important in the current climate).

Knock out a few walls and put in a long table, and the Nats would be able to sort out catering as well. Key, of course, would be charged with feeding his feudal retainers, sorry, caucus colleagues, out of noblesse oblige. Every week or so, they could send out a few armed horsemen to secure food supplies from the surrounding neighbourhood. Heather Roy would be a good candidate for this; she looks nippy.

  • Tomorrowpeople,

AND they could bowl over Parnell Primary which is just up the street and make use of the land - maybe build a Marae on there for the Parnell Maori Party too?

Besides - what use is a public primary school in Parnell when you could be charging the parents for a private one!

And John could donate some Govt. money to the 'PPPP' (Parnell Private Pony Primary) - hell, he's meant to be flicking $3million of Govt. cash to Kings College eh, so why not?
