  • Jackie Clark,

I have a couple of requests. 1) I'd like to be able to delete my own comments (I guess within the edit function or something). 2) How can we faclitate a permanent hatch/match/dispatch thread? There are many people here, I know, who would like to share their love with Emma, so it's one of those moments in time when it would be most appropriate to have something like that.

  • Steve Parks,

You can delete the text of your post within the 15-minute edit window (although it would be best to acknowledge this by replacing the deleted text with “post deleted” or similar). I think deleting posts outright is frowned upon – ‘rewriting history’, so to speak. It can cause confusion if someone deletes a comment that someone else has responded to (this may be done inadvertently, or sometimes even maliciously).

  • giovanni tiso,

Am I the only person for whom the email subscription to threads works in entirely random fashion, so much so as to make it effectively useless? Used to be the case with the old system too, mind.

Hi Giovanni, could you let me know what you mean by random? It’s designed to send you a single email when the thread is updated, but then not bother you again until you follow the link provided. Once you’ve visited the thread, you’ll then receive another email the next time a new post is made, and so forth.

  • giovanni tiso,

Case in point: I'm subscribed to this thread, but wasn't alerted when you posted. (It's not in spam either, just checked.) I might get an email and then find that the discussion had progressed with other comments in-between since the previous alert. It's basically the reason why I stopped using the subscription option and just resorted to checking manually, I figured I'd give it another shot since the upgrade.

(I like the way you set it up though, that's a smart system. It just doesn't work for me for some reason.)

  • giovanni tiso,

I've wondered in the past: could it have something to do with the fact that one appears to be logged in at the time, even if they've since closed the tab in their browser?

Definitely not expected behaviour. I’ll have a word to the technicians next week. (The site uses a cookie to remember your logged in state if you select "Remember Me" when signing in, so it’s normal to be logged in when returning via a link.)

  • giovanni tiso,

I ask becaue for a while there seemed to be a connection between my logging in (albeit simply by returning via a link as you say) and the alert system 'waking up'. But I was never too systematic in my observations I admit.

  • recordari,

Is there a convention for the search function?

I'm guessing it is 'relevance' based, which makes sense, but I'm always searching through to see the posts in the last 6 to 12 months, and that isn't quite as easy.

Could it be both relevance and chronology?

  • matthewbuchanan, in reply to recordari,

It is by relevancy currently, but it may be easy to offer a chronological list as well, or a sort option. I’ll investigate.

    Thanks for that.
