Here's a great country song written by none other than Snoop Dogg. Pretty funny shots in the vid.

Hard not to smile, or dance for that matter
damn straight. that's one of the few songs that get this guy up on the dance floor. well... that or anything reggae/hip-hop.
heard a great story* about them trying to write it and bootsie collins walking in. he takes a listen as says, "nope. you gotta make it like this". naturally it's their only hit.
(*possibly apochryphal)

An oldie, but a goodie. Time to dust off that Sportronic/2600/C64/NES/Master System...

The freaky fast version which will make you gay:
Well, I once heard a live cover done by kd lang and Erasure's Andy Bell. I really, really wouldn't have minded being a lesbian for four and a half minutes.
I was horrified a few years back when a baby sitter brought her disco oldies over to play - and she wasn't being ironic)
Well, Paul, there's an awful lot of shitty disco out there -- but you could say that of any musical genre, couldn't you. But I've got to come out of the disco closet -- my first record purchase (or rather Mum nagged into buying it for my birthday) was Abba. And music as gorgeous and lyrically pointed as
Doctor Buzzard's Orginal Savannah Band's Cherchez la femme deserves a damn slight better than smirking camp irony. -
And while I'm trying to humiliate myself... I own a copy (and not the first) of the Xanadu soundtrack.
Why? Because this was freaky without the pictures...
-
Oh, I missed Levon Helm back there! Bless. The Band's version of 'Long Black Veil' is my favourite.
damn straight. that's one of the few songs that get this guy up on the dance floor.
That song is just a never-fail, isn't it? It's *all hooks*. There isn't one part of it that isn't catchy and awesome!
(I was going to post a link to Q-Tip's 'Vivrant Thing', because 'Groove is in the Heart' features Q-Tip, and 'Vivrant Thing' also has an irresistible groove, so I always get reminded of it. But then I rewatched the video and it proves that I am a terrible feminist because it has so much slo-mo booty in it. This also goes for, um, just about every big dumb mainstream hiphop song I like from the last decade. Oh, ODB's 'Got Your Money', how can I love you so much when you are so wrong?)
Here's an awful-yet-also-fantastic minor hit that I have loved since childhood: ex-Monkee Michael Nesmith's 'Cruisin' (Lucy and Ramona and Sunset Sam)'. Nice rollerskates and hot pants, ladies!
-
And a few more songs that make me dance -- well twitch in a faintly alarming manner, in private:
Everybody Dance by Chic
Doctor's Orders by Carol Douglas
Got To Give It Up (Part 1) - Marvin Gaye -
Yay. I love 'Got to Give it Up': it's not only a song which makes you dance, it's *about* getting up and dancing and getting over your shyness. It's meta, man.
And while I'm trying to humiliate myself... I own a copy (and not the first) of the Xanadu soundtrack.
Is this where I come out of the closet as an ELO fan?
(And holy 70s explosion, look at this Olivia Newton-John/ABBA/Andy Gibb medley clip!
It has 'Please Mister Please' *and* 'I Just Want to Be Your Everything' in one handy package! All I need is ON-J singing 'A Little More Love' and my life would be complete...)
-
how can I love you so much when you are so wrong?
You're probably going to hit me for this, Danielle, but I often ask myself why so much of my taste in music suggests I missed my calling as the Martha Graham of pole dancing. I love Prince, but there's still part me that knows when he was writing for women some icky stuff fell out.

Tony Kennedy you have it right about Rodrigo Y Gabriela, but Tamacun is better.
We first saw them went we went to see Courtney Pine in Edinburgh, these two who looked like roadies were on stage at the start. They put out two chairs, set up the mikes, brought out two guitars. Then sat down and just started playing them like you have never seen and heard acoustic guitar played before. We have signed CDs and everything! They are very nice people too.
They are so much better live, seen them do Stairway live in a cave in subterranean Edinburgh too just after he had worked it out. Gabriela didn't want to do it.

Merrica, I was actually going to post that very clip by Leessang of Rush but opted for the others... Was in Korea when it came out and have a few of their albums. Probably their most catchy song, but they have a few other decent ones.
