Excellent news about the Farmers' Market. I'm getting tired of traipsing over to Parnell and paying inflated prices for so-so produce.
-
Kiwiblog needs to severely increase its intellectual rigor and standards somewhat - it is the odd website out in that ffunell arrangement.
-
Part of that ffunnell banner ad looks suspiciously like a Richard Killeen artwork to me

Word. My discomfort in having PA linked to Kiwiblog in a commercial venture could only be described as palpable.

My local Farmers Market isn't cheap, it is good, but not cheap.

Great news about the Farmers Market (although shame it's starting in winter, will make the walk less enjoyable). We'll be members and be there for sure.
One point if they are reading - question 2 on the survey needs explanation ("responsible for" in what way?) -
The lower case double f in ffunnell makes my heart sing. Sometimes I wish my name were ffoulkes, just so I could be canterkerous and pedantic about using the correct case.

I am still deciding how to react to Public Address being linked to Kimberley Crossman
-
It annoys me that on the scoop website featuring PA, Pundit and Kiwiblog, that KB is the default option, listed first and always open.
-
I wondered what that was. I've misclicked twice in the white space on PA and had ffunnel pop up. Maybe that's by design..

Wrong part of town for me sadly, but Grey Lynn seems to be quite the hotbed of sustainability, with the GLFM and also the very active Grey Lynn 2030 group, who are part of the international Transition Towns initiative (and on Twitter here).
Lets hope some sustainability seeps into the Supercity concept too...

Telecom seem to be applying the same priority to answering the ffunnell questions as they do to answering the Xtra support line.
Is there any sort of automation behind it or is it just being re-directed to their call centre staff to answer when they have down time between calls ?
Not a good look for a network where they are making a big fuss about the "speed"
-
Gareth - the market's not starting until September ? Don't wander over there this weekend looking for some brussel sprouts.
You'll need to stick to Avondale Markets for while yet.
-
Yeah I misread the "this Saturday" meeting bit as the start date of the market! Got the wife rather excited about that...
But one of us probably will head down to that meeting anyway -
I fear the GL Community centre location may get outgrown rapidly, there'll be a lot of enthusiasm for it.
The recent Kraftbombs held there have been really popular and the centre location barely copes.
One of the local school grounds might be a better option maybe ?
-
Local school ground was original choice it seems but banned by zoning laws.
This seems a good fit for my continuing campaign to do something with SoHole Square. Terraces of local veges... -
banned by zoning laws
WTF ? Get Rodney HIde onto it
-
Yeah, from their site (which should be updated with this new info btw):
We are currently looking at various venues, including one at a commercial venue off Richmond Road, Grey Lynn. Unfortunately, due to Auckland City Council zoning restrictions, it is not viable to use our original preferred venue which was Grey Lynn Primary School on Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn.

ffunnell looks like a good idea/ but there is no real information on their website. Whats the deal there?
I'm pleased to say there is only one site on the list I'm really interested in - even scoop seems a little circumlocutory these days.
Perhaps Scoop needs a better angle - more bite/ opinion and less recycling of cyber litter. Wait maybe that is - Pundit which looks like a great idea but they obviously need more advertising as I've never heard of them before today.
Have to say I'm not interested in news per sae and most of what I like is elsewhere.
I had to look up to find out who that Kim person was. Lucky I'm not in the target market for over hyped actors with small roles.
-
The school site probably doesn't have enough SUV parking for a farmers market.
-
We head out once a week to the Avondale markets for all our vege needs. It's cheap as chips and there's plenty to see and do. I've found "Farmer's Markets" in the city to be a bit expensive for me and mostly patronised by "foodies." Ugh.
-
Interested to see that Pundit wants contributors /members to agree before hand to unspecified terms and condition AND also undisclosed copyright terms.
I have asked them about this myself but surely if you want contributions you would disclose all of these items up front. Kind of sets the tone.
The relevance to this ffunnell topic is - if we want to have a professional ad network shouldn't the sites also be more professional?
-
Grey Lynn is still a helpful mix of SUV's and bicycles. I noticed the GLFM site is having some problems so here is another link to keep an eye on.
alternative info on GLFM from Grey Lynn 2030 site.

Hi PAers,
The purpose and objectives of ffunnell are explained fairly succinctly in the page linked to in Rusell's post. Basically independent online publisher like ourselves (scoop), Russell, Mauricio (geekzone) and David need a higher quality of representation if we are to be able to earn a buck from our work.
With regards to the Kiwiblog, Pundit, PA connurbation I think the thing to realise is that political discourse and debate works best for democracy as a whole when both sides of the debate talk to each other.
I know that every now and then Russell turns up on Kiwiblog (not sure about vice versa) but in general this is healthy. I know that David also posts to The Standard - which is also good. David himself is always completely polite an inclusive to everybody so notwithstanding his differing political views I cannot see any harm in a bi-partisan political discussion advertising network.
I would also add that in terms of advertising sales Kiwiblog, Scoop and Public Address have been working together now since early 2008 - so that part of this isn't even very new.
By way of contrast in the US some highly partisan online discussion communities remain very strongly separated - Freerepublic and DemocraticUnderground for example - and in being so separated just exacerbate the general levels of misunderstanding.
Anyway that is my POV.
As for KimberlyCrossman she is in Ffunnell courtesy of connections with ffunnell co-conspirator Regan Cunliffe whose cre8ed built her website. From an advertising perspective such diversity makes fine.
Finally Jason Scoop is circumlocutory by design. And we are all professional about what we do - as it is. I think you may be being a bit harsh.
With regards to our friends at Pundit we at scoop are doing our best to help them to grow - speaking of which - Kiwiblog has had a good period being the default open on that tabpanel so we might just change that to Pundit.
Anyways... its always nice to get some feedback about issues like the above. A good reminder that we web publishers ought to never underestimate the ability of our blog users to have strong opinions about their communities.
Bottom line here is that blogs like Public Address and Kiiwblog - and news publishers like Scoop - need to earn a crust. We need $$$ to pay for things like hosting, wages, parties, travel and phone bills.
This inevitably means a bit of commercialisation. But we do want to make it commercialisation which does not offend.
And - because all of us indigenous independents arein commercial terms the minnows in a pond full of sharks - it also involves collaboration and cooperation. That way we can hopefully be big enough, nimble enough and innovative enough to do the business.
And if we can do it for ourselves then our intention is to expand our network to help as many professional, quality and Kiwi online publishers as we can service.
regards
alastair
Scoop, Scoop Media Network, ffunnell -
Unfortunately, due to Auckland City Council zoning restrictions, it is not viable to use our original preferred venue which was Grey Lynn Primary School on Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn.
I've just checked the zoning on this site; it is zoned Special Purpose Activity Zone 2, which provides for Primary, Intermediate, Secondary and Tertiary educational purposes.
However, on reading the objectives, rules, polices and methods, there's nothing in there that explicitly prohibits a farmer's market. So I'm not sure what is preventing a farmers market from operating at the Grey Lynn Primary School.
It may simply be a case that they are facing stiff fees to argue their case to a hearing. In which case the injustice is quite something; developers can *pay* their way past problems, whereas something good and genuinely beneficial to the community is denied.
If anything this demonstrates how the RMA works in favour of the money god, but not the community god.
