  • the E,

tin foil hats, feather fantails, sequined bosoms, shoes- with-the-curled-up-toes, & compulsory beltbag with assorted "emergency supplies", all compulsory for wellingtonians currently heading to cuba quarter.

    (now isn't that a picture)

    viva la carnival!

  • merc,

How wonderfully...feudal. God, I'm a wet, hope it goes off. We're looking forward to our local A&P Show. I have a confession, I'm in Rodney, no, not like that, Rodney District. John's land, run from Glorious Parnell. The only water we have out here mate is from the tank out the back, if it rains.
So I'm only a wannabe JAFFA, who dreams of one day seeing the bright lights of our wondrous capital and maybe touching the hem of Weliwood royalty, like Jacko.

  • Yamis,

Felt the middle one but not the first and third.

We have a "pole" house and I thought somebody was trying to break in underneath by wrenching on the door to a downstair room. That, or the digging I'd been doing round the base had gone a bit further than I'd intended!

Seriously though, 80% of my students at school (about 100) didn't even feel any of the three.

If the city does get levelled though where the hell is the government going to collect tax from?! The rest of the country is too poor to pay any.

Off this thread but just a warning to all those adjacent countries like Mexico and Canada who think that George made a mistake by sending the bulk of his army and reserves overseas and that the US is ripe for the plucking........see http://www.armedamerica.org/index.html and beware!

  • Robyn Gallagher,

__most people are actually killed with this method, and should be outlawed and replaced with the "TRIANGLE OF LIFE"__

Outlawed! I like the idea that after an earthquake, someone could end up doing jail time for not reacting in the correct position.

Here's Snopes' verdict on the Triangle of Life:

  • Don Christie,

Cuba Carnival - still rocking but I am home now.

    Review of the early bands...

Kora - 2nd time seen in two weeks. Last time out was at X-Air. Putting the "whuk" back into Whackatane - I gather. Rocking good band.

Yoots - first time out, classic Ska. The best, hopefully they'll get together again.

Solaa - missed most of their set. Hiphop, pop. Pretty good as well.

The Mint Chicks - christ, every band in every pup and SU bar in my yoof played like these guys, for better or worse, usually worse. 30 minutes nostalgia was enough, not enough safety pins or phlegm around for the true flahback kick.

Missing The Phoenix Foundation about whom I have only heard good things.

This music critic stuff is a lark. Russell, if you can magic up a couple of tickets to Fat Freddie's gig at the basin I will be happy to do a repeat for PA.

  • Che Tibby,

yup. fantastic day. someone commented "i didn't know there even was this many people in wellington!"

the city can be proud of itself, great day, no louts, heaps of fun, heaps of laughs, heaps of good food.

even saw a cop joking around with a hippie who was drinking from an open bottle of wine. total liquor ban? meh. he was just a chilled out guy having a tipple.

and yes, mint chicks were good. glad to see "i might be crazy..." isn't over-produced.

    I know a 14 year-old girl who'd probably fight you for that ...

Love the guy who says "Owning a firearm brings me some sort of balance. When I am angry at the world I find relief in dropping a clip into the air. And, at the same time, if the world threatens me or those I love, I find relief in the protection it gives me."

Because unbalanced people who get angry and 'drop a clip into the air'. That's exactly who we want owning _four_ firearms. Yup.
