yeah, i guess she should be out there working in the community like Collins. i mean to say, fancy a Commissioner for Children being a spokesperson for children at a time like this, the outrage of it and all.

Yeah, but she invoked the 2003 Act to say so, in a way that suggested she either didn't understand the purpose of the Act or was deliberately misrepresenting it. If Kiro didn't independently advocate for children she wouldn't be fulfilling her responsibilities under the law.

I think the point Collins was trying to make in her oh so unweildly way was that she thought Kiro wasn't being independant, that she was trotting out the Labour party line. Which is pretty stupid considering it's a green party bill. Collins is just trying to get her 15 column inches of fame.

HMS Collins is a bully and a fool. anyone hear her get eviscerated on National radio this afternoon. it was great. actually even funnier was hearing Jim Mora stutter and splutter when he realised his 'Panel', usually stacked with redneck rightwing populists to voice the opinions he holds but dare not say, turned out to actually be intelligent humanists. you haven't heard a presenter rush to (unsuccssfully) try and rearrange their intended line and script so hilariously since Linda Clarke.

Hey hold on a bit here, as describing Judith Collins as a bully and a fool is hardly fair. I do not agree with her out bursts concerning the deadbeat dad tag and child support, as she fails to recognise the fact that a lot of fathers flee to Australia before they come a unfortunate client of the unfair Kangaroo court. However the spiteful Children’s Commissioner wanted me incarcerated in jail. Just to put some balance back into the discussion. I have received many letters from the Children’s Commissioner Office since year 2002, regarding my personal family case. Last year Dr Cindy Kiro made a complaint to police about me, as she found an email I sent her offensive. CIB detectives after an investigation and interview thankfully did not charge me with anything, and I was relieved to finally get this information Christmas 2006. They made me sweat on this for 6 months! I hope that is not a standard procedure from a Children’s Commissioner and remember well, my emails and letters to her were from a genuine concerned father worried about his two estranged daughters. Why else would I have bothered. I agree with Judith on her analysis of the Commissioner, as she is so prejudice she cannot understand the word balance. To say that she has “lost the plot” it is the understatement of the century. For the benefit of the children of New Zealand d4j thinks it would be appropriate that she has an immediate lobotomy to change her bias and totally deluded attitude because kids do like being with both a mum and dad. Oh dear dear - where else in the world do Amazons rule?

That might be so, but how is criminalising decent parents advocating for children? It's difficult to see how separating kids from their parents, which is likely to be more prevalent if the bill is passed, is in the best interests of kids. I doubt that Ms Kiro, who thought that smacking her own kids was OK, has thought about the consequences of the bill for kids.

Right, so why are Labour MPs being whipped into line over this? In fact, not one Labour MP is prepared to vote against the bill. Why? Not because they agree with it; some of them don't.

well gee rossoron, maybe because it's not a conscience vote? shame the Opposition are still so divided some of them are voting with the Government on s59, but then i guess you'd see that as 'democracy in action'. and i guess you're right; National's last 3 failed leaders being discarded by voters is democracy in action too. i do like the thrashing of the term 'whipped' though - very subtle, very clever, very psychomological and all.

(a) A single act may amount to abuse for the purposes of that
subsection:
(b) A number of acts that form part of a pattern of behaviour may

Damage to property which a child can see is "abuse"

hokay, so I've done a chunk of googling re: tamihere scandalous gossip. are we talking the psychokiller brother and the fact that he grew up in a big poor family?
i know black and white supposedly gives a heart rending account of his woeful childhood trauma, but finding a review that actually goes into any detail is pretty tricksy. i suspect i will just forgoe the gossip as its not worth reading a whole book of dreck just for that small background info.meanwhile, re: outsourced smacking (way back in the dark ages a couple of weeks ago) fleshwound is being remade as exactly that service...

He's got plenty but he will be keeping them to himself until the run up to the election. He's not stupid. He sees which way the wind is blowing first before opening his mouth. Clarke has done the same on this smacking debate: she now says a light smack won't get you arrested.
If cops look the other way when ppl smoke dope in public (as they do when they've got no other reason to bust you) I can't see them arresting parents who smack.
