  • Stephen Judd,

Apropos Lincoln: I was on the Mt Vic bus yesterday afternoon, and there were two very loud young men in the back seat behind me.

    "Lincoln was gay you know."
    "No way."
    "Yeah, he fucked men bro."
    "How do you know?"
    "It's knowledge , bro."

  • uroskin,

My personal highlight of the year so far is getting a written apology from the Minto crew for berating the one-sided or dim-witted NZ media coverage of the Gaza War, because they failed to mention that our coverage by Aljazeera TV was superb and superior to anything else available in NZ.

  • Steve Barnes,

It said there were reports the incident began when a man tried to steal a handbag. He was then said to have got into a car and driven off.

He is reported to have ditched the car in Titirangi before getting into a Skyline, TVNZ said.

Police shut the motorway with one witness describing it as "looking like a carpark".

I wonder, did the get the handbag back?

  • Stephen Judd,

I wish I could remember properly how they continued to discuss whether it was ok to flout your organisation's IT policy if you were the one who wrote it, and whether men should bet paid more than women, and how to avoid their flatmate. I haven't felt so old, wise, and smug by comparison in a long time.

  • Steve Barnes,

I recall a conversation on a bus while I was back in England a while back. A couple were discussing the guy's younger brother.
"Well I don't know how he thinks he can move out of Mums"
Yeah, like he's not up for it I reckon'
    "Nah. He can't even iron"

  • Tom Semmens,

A mate and myself have just been on the bright Street pedestrian overbridge over the Northwestern Motorway and itis like a scene out of "I am legend" - not car to be seen on fourteen traffic lanes, at 3:50pm, on a Friday, at the beginning of a long weekend, in Auckland...

  • Jolisa,

I love the internet. I'm sitting in the dark in snowy New Haven on a Thursday night, e-mailing my bros and sis to suggest alternate routes home from work tonight on the basis of Russell's public service announcement about the one-off crazy Friday Pt Chev traffic. A message to the future!

And I got this instant reply from one brother:

Yers. [Wife] is stuck on Meola with an over-it [baby], aiming to pick [older kid] up by 3:30 -- from the corner of Gt North and Pt Chev roads -- against the flow of four lanes of motorway pouring off at Pt Chev exit... she has been on the road for 30 min so far. not too excellent! I am directing via txt from the Control Centre based on google maps and arcane / esoteric pizza delivery knowledge.

    whee.

    Not!

Once they hook up all those CCTVs to Google Street View, it really will be just like being there...

  • Jolisa,

Breaking: pickup accomplished, family retreated to grandparental refuge at the end of Pt Chev Rd. Phew.

You're right, Ben, it would have been better on a bike, although tricky with two kids unless you've got one of those top of the line Dutch jobbies. Drool.

Having been to the grandparental refuge in question, there are far worse places to retreat too on a sunny Friday afternoon :)

  • Danielle,

I, on the other hand, am doomed. I mean, not 'shot after a high speed car chase' doomed, but 'sitting hotly in standstill traffic on Great North Road for hours while wending my way to Oratia' doomed. Still, at least I'm prepared.

(I love the internet too, Jolisa. Ain't it grand?)

  • BenWilson,

A 2 seater bike trailer is not really that dear. Been examining it myself, recently. But not that seriously, I have doubts about the safety of taking small children on a pushbike commute. I notice the depicted Mum has a strange attitude to safety, wearing a lovely reflective jacket, but no helmet.

  • Don Christie,

OTOH, I was getting really tired of various lefty-liberal types writing him off two weeks before he was even in the job.

Seems to be the MO of these types. Get their person elected and then do everything possible to get them unelected asap.

Nice Amy W. joke btw. I snorted.

Perhaps some of us Wellington-based PA regulars could organise a less formal get-together?

    Cool idea...

What of a FaceBook group to help coordinate things?

Dunno, I appear to be the last adult human not on that thing.
