It reminds me of the cover feature in about every third Listener: "If you don't get enough Omega 3, you'll need plastic surgery and you'll never afford a mortgage in a good school zone" or some such.
There is a disturbing zone where Kedgleyism overlaps with the electoral poster image of the Arian, Benetton-clad girl looking at us disapprovingly from some sort of fiord, and it throws me right in the arms of populist Labour. But of course there's a lot to like in the policies and the people as well.
-
Hauraki gulf = fiord. Hilarious.
-
Gio, I know you regard our city as a myth, but that island behind aforementioned poster girl is Rangitoto. You may recognise the name from such things as pigsniffle outbreaks.
-
Was it? It looked like some desolate barren Northern European landscape to me. Then again, perhaps that's what Auckland is like.

Only the parts near Waterview..

It's not the chemical resistance that's evil, it's the suicide genes that they've been putting into some of their crops
Just to clear this up. What you have been told isn't true Mathew.
The suicide gene system was developed to try and figure out a method to make certain crops couldn't "escape" and take over the world like triffids. The suicide gene systems have never been put in any released crops
tying farmers into buying seed every year rather than being able to be self-sufficient after the first seed purchase.
Um if you check with the farmers they want to use the seed, even if they have to pay for it they still make more money than they used to.
Oh, that and their habit of suing anyone whose fields end up contaminated with their GE'd crops...
Yeah that wasn't particularly nice. But as someone funded by govt money there is just no way you can produce a big GE crop without big dollars - many more dollars than Mr Key is ever gonna give to us evil genetic engineers.
If you can figure out a way to get money to develop these valuable and environmentally friendly crops without patents then I'd love it. Untill then patents kinda work, bit like cop... oops wrong thread :).

I don't want to pick on you Tom, but the broccoli comment is kind of typical of the response - it's like people have some childhood resistance to being "told what to do."
Well, I don't mean to pick on you (OK, that's a lie -- to hell with me) -- but since I can wipe my own arse, fuck, own property and be out after dark without having to get a permission slip from Mummy, I have a very grown-up attitude problem towards know-it-alls who regard democracy as something that's wasted on the ignorant peasants who just won't realise what's good for them. And that's not a slam I'd reserve for the Greens by any measure. But everytime I'm on the verge of nodding my head in agreement, the waggling finger just has to come out...

It was certainly the case with the corn and soy seeds they exported to Italy after the war - the farmers would buy them every year, the yields were just too good not to do that. And obviously it was before GE.

Is democracy good for you?
Does it come in liquid form? -
Is democracy good for you?
Yes, because its a form of government where you actually have to persuade people rather than threaten them with the drowny wrath of Dagon the Three Eyed FrankenFish.
-
the waggling finger just has to come out...
I'd pull it. :)
-
its a form of government where you actually have to persuade people rather than threaten them
In light of today's various tramplings, that's just priceless.

Is he a friend of Jesus?
-
I thought he might be one of the green onion slave girl's friends.

How come he gets a name and she doesnt?
I could imagine one up I s'pose.
Now where can I get me some liquid democracy. -
Is he a friend of Jesus?
Can I throw a stout volume of Lovecraft at your head? It wouldn't achieve a damn thing, but sculling cough syrup isn't helping either.

This discussion thread "jumped the shark" at around page 4.

It also happens to be when I joined this thread. Coincidence? I don't think so.

re Tumescent Dander
Russell your prudence is commendable
(and hopefully not too dear) another way of
curbing fast rising dander is the new
Snibbo Dander Ruff to prevent
snapping and biting... : )re the One City Ring Road
I hear the traffic is Mordor up there
while some Sauron flyovers and others
burrow through halls of stone...One Ring Road to rule them all,
One Ring Road to find them,
One Ring Road to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them...This madness must be halted,
We must Rail against it!Part of the nature of the Ring Road
is that it slowly but inevitably corrupts
its users, regardless of any intentions
to the contrary. The Ring Road must be cast into
the heart of Mount Doom
(Formerly known as Mt Albert)Will a Chevalier arise from the people?
To take point against Nyarlathotep
this crawling traffick in chaos...this will be the War to View, an epic!

Can I throw a stout volume of Lovecraft at your head?
Never did read him. Epicurus was so much more philosophically satisfying.
It wouldn't achieve a damn thing, but sculling cough syrup isn't helping either.
Try that Liquid Democracy.
But enough, I must give my full attention to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
Its got Death and everything. -
JLM,
There seems to be a lot of bursting into rhyme (or something)...

When the Honourable Mr Hyde
Decided Auckland ought to be tied
He rushed out a horrible bill
So the local councils would chill
Spending their savings denied -
Dagon the Three Eyed FrankenFish.
I think the Elucidated Order might want to be having a few words with you.

National decided to flirt
with winning the seat Mt Albert
but then they nixed the tunnel
which meant traffic will funnel
thru houses and parks, it will hurt -
Wow we finally see these Auckland bills:
