I also cursed as they switched to the soccer BUT when I clicked on "Live Feeds" on the TVNZ Olympics page I was inundated with god knows how many live feeds of the women's road Race. So I settled back and watched the whole thing through to the exciting finish. Don't know why everyone else couldn't get them except that I had my Mac set to show via Quicktime which may explain the dozens of live feeds that tried to come through?

I like soccer, but for the love off God, what is it doing in the Olympics?
I agree - but then I feel the same about the beach volley ball. I don't want to go all post modern feminist here, but what the fsck are they wearing (or not wearing)? I mean those 'kini bottoms are so small ... since when did builder's bum become an Olympic sport?
Fortunately I was also able to watch the whole women's cycling race on public TV in Oz - which made a pleasant change from endless Australian swimming successes. It rocked.

Yeah, do you think Sony coulda let us know that was coming to market sooner? Like maybe 3 months ago when I bit the bullet and bought a big screen plasma (Sharp) to enjoy the Olympics?
I think they probably deliberately kept quiet. A note that you're a recent arrival on Public Address System, so perhaps also a new reader? I'm pretty sure Russell mentioned it here on several occasions, and it was also a footnote to some of the information about Freeview at launch. But you are right, it's not something that has been heavily trumpeted. There are several other brands apparently in testing that have yet to appear.
Incidentally, the Sony on-screen menu makes it clear the tuner is a Zinwell (for any interested geeks).but what the fsck are they wearing (or not wearing)? I mean those 'kini bottoms are so small ... since when did builder's bum become an Olympic sport?
My learned Sony owning friend informs me that there are regulations. Including no more than a 5cm inseam for women, and 10cm for men.

Back in the good old days when I was on the Uni of Waikato Karate team, I had an experience which was 1" punch like...
I was in a points sparring tournament and my opponent came in too close with an attempt at a low punching attack.
It was really weird. I remember seeing it all happen in slow motion and having time to think "he's left his face completely unguarded... I suppose I better hit him then". As I had my left hand up in guard position, I just jabbed it a few inches to his face with what I thought was a pretty feeble attempt, but I did have a good stable stance and the jab landed on his face. His head snapped back, he went wobbly at the knees and nearly fell out of the ring. The judge gave me the "ippon" (full point) call and the people watching applauded. I had no idea how it had turned out so effective. Just one of those "Zen" moments.
However, that was all my Zen ration used up and the guy broke my nose in the next engagement. I still can't sing properly to this day...
Maybe that's a kharma thing. -
t one point I suggested we could have a drinking game every time Toni asked a question involving the use of the verb 'feel'
She's just done a dreadful interview with Moss Burmester. I think she used "feel" 3 times in one sentence.
It was, perhaps, the worst interview I've seen of a swimmer mid competition, unless undermining a swimmer's confidence is the aim of the interview.

Weird people are saying they didn't catch the whole women's road race. I saw the whole thing live on the TVNZ sports extra channel on Feeeeeview. All wrapped up by 9:30 on Sunday night. The English bird won.

If only I was exaggerating. What's even more amusing, is I'm fairly sure our parents shared a workplace...

Sorry Wammo, but it wasn't an English bird that won it was a Welsh woman.
