  • Juha Saarinen,

That was very good indeed. I am reminded of the Modest Proposal of many years ago, a perfectly reasonable suggestion that was turned down by socialist namby-pambies, for they existed at that time too.

  • Crunchy Weta,

In a similar vein to your last link, you could try to download the documentary "The God Delusion (part1)" -Richard Dawkins. The point about amputees is mentioned there also.

  • Martha Craig,

Perhaps we could do a small amputation on all the little babies, and create a generation that will finally respect its elders.

I wonder if all the little Jewish & Moslem boys (& some Moslem girls) are more respectful of their elders than the non-amputated ones. That would be more than circumstantial evidence...

  • Alex Coleman,

Your talents are being wasted here. I understand Bob Clarkson would give a lot for sound poltical suggestions such as these.

  • andrew llewellyn,

Is it coincidence then that just a few years shy of 30 years ago, the police in Wellington trailed a one legged (although 'armed" with an axe/baseball bat/hammer - I can't recall exactly) man called Miggsy Morgan to a Wainuiomata landfill & proceeded to shoot him dead (prompting a beautiful piece of grafitti in Aro Valley - "They Shoot Cripples, Don't They?"

I don't know the details of Mr Morgan's amputation, but it is a reasonable guess that he had spent some time of his shortish life behind bars, whether with or without his leg, I do not know.

To get to the point - could Miggsy have been the last amputee behind bars?

To get off the point again, the night of the day he died - chances are it was Christmas Eve, because I remember I was visiting my old stamping ground, and ex-school chums, at the Naenae Olympic hotel.

There was music of some sort. I fronted up to my friends' table & exclaimed loudly "Hey, what about the cops shooting this Morgan guy?" or words to that effect, possibly not so diplomatic. My friends looked stricken & shushed me quickly.

It seems just before I arrived, someone from the table next to us, someone with dreadlocks, & a large patch on his jacket, got up, took the microphone, and made a moving & lengthy tribute to their "good friend, Miggsy Morgan."

jeremy. LOL. and on the same vein i was intending to refer to.

perhaps the circumstantial evidence will further our concern with the feminist conspiracy. they do not suffer such amputation, after all.

I like the way you're thinking, David; all you need to do is factor in some private sector involvement and we could promote this to National as a corrections policy.

While we are on the subject of removing body parts, I was not surprised that all the namby-pamby liberal do-gooders were shocked and horrified when Barzan Ibrahim lost his head when they hanged him. The liberal media talked about a botched execution. But it did the job, didn't it? He went in alive and came out dead.

Besides, losing his head probably taught him a lesson that a normal hanging would not. I think you should look into the stats and see how many decapitees are clogging up our prisons, taking Sociology degrees, and living the life of Riley at the expense of hard-working Kiwi battlers.

I think you will find there are none.

Heh, reminds me of some graffito I grew up with in Palmy. It said: Disarm Rapists.

David wrote I hope I understand the report correctly: not one amputee has been sent to the Big House in this country in thirty years.

amputee medpot users Neville Yates (grew a few plants twice and jailed both times), and Danuiel Clark (once for same) unfortunately spring to mind.

  • Scott Fannen,

All very well in theory but suffers from closer investigation - and the problems you get with the death sentence.

    * They hardly keep statistics on criminals lack of body parts.
    * Some crimes don't have obvious bits to cut off.
    * What about severity of the crime? Do we measure how much comes off?
    * You're hardly going to be a dangerous offender to start with if you're missing legs.
    * Abu Hamza - missing a hand and an eye (and probably a sense of reality) jailed for inciting religious hatred and death (probably led to the 7/7 bombings on London's Tube).
    * If you get a miscarriage of justice, an innocent person loses a body part.

Then again, I'm sure you wrote tongue firmly in cheek - watch out, that might get amputated! Nope, we still, fortunately, have freedom of the press and freedom of expression - bloody liberals :)

    Scott :)

Well at least Burton can't say he wasn't warned -- that if he broke his probation he wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
