  • Islander,

A censorship body that still exists within this archipelagoe's shores: one of the criteria for selection, during the 5 years I served (you got your travel fare & basic hotel bill paid, but other than that, it was a public service) was a requirement for certain specialities to be represented: I was the literary specialist...really, the only time I was useful was being adamant that a book of gay male poetry had considerable literary merit. Otherwise - most of the stuff was wank material. But the people who were into piercing/branding/b&d/s&m did occaisionally turn up to support the media of their choice: they were articulate and tolerant (which wasnt the case for representatives of SPUC in some cases, e.g.)

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

A fortnight ago my book The Idiot Boy Who Flew (below) won the Whitcoull's Reader's Choice prize at the Cathay Pacific Travel Media Awards.

Fantastic! Well deserved fine Sir. :) I loved the book. Makes you feel like you're going along for the ride. Cogratulations.

  • Steve Barnes,

We saw This Guy tonight I was blown away. The music just seemed to flow out of him, layering itself into wisps of magic flowing into streams of beauty weaving their way through the staccato transitions of the city street. Then we went into the Civic to witness one of my heroes slip into a regression reminiscent of a bad Sunday afternoon Jazz and Blues gig in an old cinema, the Civic was as stunning as ever but I felt lost. The hard edge of the blues for which I held Mayall in high regard was gone. I struggled for a simile but I will wait for Graham's review.

If you buy drinks for him after a gig, he'll also sing requests for you at your table. I got him to sing 'mona lisa' for my girlfriend once. Great fun.

Sounds like he had a marginally better experience. "Occasionally terrific ... enjoyable rather than exciting". Link here.
