So that's what Craig Parker's been doing ...

  • Russell Brown,

Fronting dodgy mortgage ads on British TV, that is.

Meanwhile, Charlie Brooker gives our Craig a serve:

  • Robyn Gallagher,

I heartily reccomend "Charlie Brooker's Screen Wipe" to anyone who <3's telly. It's a cool behind-the-scenes look at the awful/awesome world of television.

He's made three short series for BBC Four and a couple of specials. Various episode and clips are available on YouTube.

With you there. We came late to it (ie: the 2006 year in review and this year's four-ep series) but I truly love it. Top gear for belly-laughs on the couch ...

  • Megan Clayton,

Hmm, Mr. Parker's screen accent confuses me. Urban mumble crossed with generic antipodean?

  • Nobody Important,

    Hey Russell!

This is off topic but ... have you noticed the tag 'Venom' that's been popping up all around town this month? (Check out the Westpac billboard on corner of Ponsonby & K'Rd if you need a pic) Any chance Sony Pictures are going to fess up and admit they're responsible? (Yeah, right - it took years before WEA REcords admitted they were responsible for all the "The Cure" graffitti that popped up mid80s, just prior to The Cure's album release). (Did they copy off Rus Le Roq or vice versa?)

So why are Sony a suspect for this latest tag? Spiderman 3 opens in May and the bad guy is Venom (which is actually Spideys new suit, which is actually not a new suit but a living organism, blah blah bleech). This will not be the first time a big company has used 'street level' marketing to 'reach the kids'. Ratepayers must be thrilled.

PS - lemme know a better place to post these types of tips ... I'm sure you'd prefer to weed out the crap ones first ...

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Argh! While we chortle along with Charlie Brooker as he takes the piss out of a bank that uses sexy ladies as a metaphor to sell banking services, on this very webpage is an ad for RaboPlus which uses a sexy lady as a metaphor to sell banking services!

(My mum opened a RaboPlus account to put her super in, and I thought it was funny that an "old lady" was using a bank that is working very very hard to market itself to men.)

  • Nobody Important,

er .. um ... uh ... I'm now seeing tags that say "Fenom" ... I will take a closer look tomorrow before anyone disparages those fine folk at Sony ... [ in ref to my above post]

PS Rabo is good - 7.5% on freaking call! No other bank can match that! Thanks Mr Bollard!

  • Nobody Important,

okay here it is: there are TWO taggers ... one called Fenom and one called Venom, the latter up there on Ponsonby & K Rd. In order to keep my wild conspiracy alive (although it now seems ludicrous) maybe Sony gave the money and spray cans to a tagger that couldn't spell properly at the beginning?? No? Okay I'll shut up ...

I don't get any of the RaboPlus advertising, which probably makes me a fag. I'll tell you what, though - people are clicking on that one. I think it's already made us more than all the Google ads we ever showed.
