Hard News: Why we thought what we thought, in reply to
Hi Nick... As ever, I bow to your legal expertise. Was discussing same with a recently elevated QC this morning and he believes that Odgers won't even want to come back to NZ anytime. I suspect she will slink off to the UK and do a spot of legal hackery, maybe conveyancing. I would personally recommend Belfast as a good place to start. Her talents might be able to facilitate some real estate deals in Falls Road or the delightful suburb of Ardoyne.

Darren Hughes was the electorate MP... for Otaki. He was popular in the district despite its largely rural nature (cows and sheep vote National). I live in this electoral division and we now have Nathan Guy as our local member. He is a farmer and strongly allied to the farming lobby. Darren was a loss and I hope that he wasn't targeted by the filth who seem to spend so much time swimming in the sewer on behalf of their dishonest leader and his gang. Key claims that he is clean but that claim looks increasingly threadbare.

How long until someone pings Odgers to the Law Society.
Not of good character and repute sounds like it fits. -
I was never intending to promise that Labour and Greens could not work as a coalition in NZ.
I have my doubts because both parties here seem to express a lot of the same level of emotions and thoughts about similar issues in a proven context. Historically they ultimately tore each other to pieces in Tasmania.
That one of your correspondents wishes to reduce and demean this... Casting it into the context of Noddy and Big Ears fighting it out over the Mayoralty of Toy Town is simply pathetic.
I won't be posting comments on this blog again.
Little kiwis and their ignorant prejudices obviously do not need any factual, historical or even much thoughtful input from an Aussie journalist who has practiced the craft for 50 years... 25 on each side of this gulf of misunderstanding and ignorance. I am gobsmacked by how many NZers go and live and work in Oz and never see what's happening there.
I love reasoned and informed argument but trans-Tasman xenophobia is just stupid... And far too prevalent.
so it is not au revoir... But goodbye -

Gave a few facts to back up you views...

I am "a wonk" because I have raised some inconvenient facts of which you were ignorant. You were also ignorant about the continuing existence of Tasmanian Aborigines. The fact is in Tasmania, Labour and Greens have been engaged in several disastrous political coalition governments. The political systems of both countries are broadly similar, the platforms of Labor and Greens are also largely aligned. Australians and kiwis share a common heritage which defines politics and social issue. I might value your opinions more if you lay off the name callingand

jMate, I was Head of ABC News and Current Affairs in Tasmania for 10 years. Although born in Sydney I have worked in all states of Australia as a journalist. I have reported state politics extensively during the Franklin Dam crisis in Tasmania iand .covered the final years of Joh Bjelke Petersen in Queensland. Believe me -- state politics are of vital interest and import to Australians and often overshadow the battles in Canberra. My original comments regarding the inability of Labor and Greens to sustain a lasting coalition is a matter of record... and BTW Tasmania is much like NZ relying on primary exports and tourism.... it has snow capped mountains, beautiful scenery and no air force

Like too many kiwis you have little understanding of the role of
State governments in a Federal system. The states make their own laws, run the police and emergency services, are responsible for the education system, welfare housing, public health, hospitals and a host of other important functions. Voters take keen interest in the politics of their own state... and as voting is compulsory... they pretty well all vote
