Well, that comes as a bit of a blow.
Like everybody else here, I was very fond of your writing.
I have much respect for your decision, but will miss your stories all the same.
Sincerely hope to read you again soon.
So long. -
Congratulations!!

Thanks for your wonderful tribute Graham.

Graham, I’m one of the pesky noise makers. Sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the percussive entertainment in Mission Bay. I’m guessing you may have been in a grumpy mood or maybe you were just hanging out for some peace and quiet (… although, Mission Bay probably doesn't fit the bill at any time of the year)
Like Carol said, come closer next time!
We’re not so good at providing quality sound spill, but we do great samba and generally put a smile on people's dial.
Or better still, come to the Haiti fundraising gig at Totos on Sunday where we’ll perform also.Oh, and as for drumming per se, I’m a tad surprised that you’re so dismissive of it. I’ve always thought that humans relate to it rather intuitively. After all we spend nine months in our mother’s womb hearing predominantly the drum solo of her heart beat …
See you Sunday?

Excellent post Graham!
I always groan when I hear public apologies ... usually they're carefully crafted elements of the political theatre and not worth the time we spend listening to them. Frankly, I put them in the same category as marketing messages.
A well rehearsed “sorry” is about as meaningful as “farm fresh” on a packet of eggs laid by battery hens. We're simply accustomed to being lied to incessantly. We brush it off as “advertising”, “politics”, “business” etc.
It's sad to consider that language is losing its meaning. -
Sand art - just stunning!
Amazing!!

It ticks all the right boxes for me. It's fabulous!!
Mind you, I am astounded, that architects would propose a solution that costs only a fraction of the actual budget.
How extraordinary! Not that I’m complaining … au contraire. I’m just somewhat speechless because I’ve become used to the fiscal version of Parkinson’s Law being the order of the day, i.e. public spending absorbing all available budgets.
What next? Common sense?
And apart from the aesthetics of it all, the pedestrian zone in Quay St clinches the deal. It’s a must!

Can I just say that, before I even read the post, I thought: "That's a fucking clever headline"?
What he said.

This linguistic excursion with brief stop-over in the gutter reminds me of something quite unrelated, however delightfully rude.
In the spring of 1943 Archibald Clark-Kerr, British ambassador to Moscow, wrote a note to Lord Pembroke (the note made the email rounds some years ago, but still puts a smile on my face).
"My Dear Reggie,
In these dark days man tends to look for little shafts of light that spill from Heaven. My days are probably darker than yours, and I need, my God I do, all the light I can get. But I am a decent fellow, and I do not want to be mean and selfish about what little brightness is shed upon me from time to time. So I propose to share with you a tiny flash that has illuminated my sombre life and tell you that God has given me a new Turkish colleague whose card tells me that he is called Mustapha Kunt.
We all feel like that, Reggie, now and then, especially when Spring is upon us, but few of us would care to put it on our cards. It takes a Turk to do that.
Sir Archibald Clerk Kerr
H.M. Ambassador"http://www.ntk.net/2000/02/25/moscow.gif
(Sorry about the clumsy link. Don't know how to go about this embedding business ... )

The Watson Twins version of "Just like Heaven" is quite something!
Very, very cool!
Cheers for that :)
