  • Hard News: One Million Tunes,

Last time I left Vancouver (2002) I left with about 45 CDs, then got the tax back (GST) from the canadian Govt so they got even cheaper by the time I hit NZ shores.

I'd hate to think how many CDs I'm gonna return with this time, it's so nice to be in the store and browsing titles again (sorry Real Groovy Dunners but Vancouver and iTunes has you dupped).

I'll be migty pissed if I find out that all that extra cost is going to support Parliamentary Barber shop jaunts to the Denver International Barbershop Convention

  • Hard News: One Million Tunes,

Actually Russell back to the lead post.

Music pricing. Could someone please explain to me the rational/workings of the prices of CD's in NZ. Are there preposterous taxes placed on these, or are their evil market forces at work.

The reason I ask is because I'm living for the next 6 months in Vancouver and one of the first tasks off the plane was to leg it to Virgin Megastore on Robson st. To my horror it's now an HMV mega store (turns out semantic change), but the prices have remained the same in the 5 years I have been away.

    Price comparison:
Back To Black - Amy Winehouse $11.99 CnD ($16 NZD) HMV Vancouver
Back To Black - Amy Winehouse $26.12 CnD ($34.95 NZD) Real Groovy NZ

Ever since my first trip to Vancouver in 1999 it's bugged me to death knowing the prices we pay back in NZ and every year they just keep creeping up. Does the govt see CDs in the same light as smoking and each budget sting the music addict just a little further?

I can understand why given global markets, position at the end of the earth etc etc but come on when we are paying more or less twice what Vancouverites are paying consistently, it bugs me.

  • Hard News: One Million Tunes,

    Sorry Russell.

As for the Moral crusader Mr English.

“I am totally responsible for my children’s physical and moral welfare”

Let's hope he's exercised a little of that?

  • Hard News: One Million Tunes,

Actually the whole English Jr thing bugs the bejesus out of me (even more so if you pop over to DPF's blog.

1, the party that preaches individual responsibility the most wants to ignore it on this occasion.

2 a person who preached to us during section 59 about the moral up bringing of one's children was apparently made aware of this and either did nothing or at the very least allowed to it remain up.

3 once again the victims are again being run through the wringer, and the alleged offender is apparently getting daddy to call in the lawyers.

Hardly individual moral responsibility. Daddy should have run the boy through the coals and got the content removed. How does the Manic Street Preachers song go, "if you tolerate this, then your children will be next"

  • National identify in TV promos,

    Wow

what was it about those jumping sheep, etched in my brain. What a great campaign, I haven't seen it in years but I could remember nearly every scene that was coming up next.

    Cheers for these.

  • Auckland Earthquake - Some Mistake Surely?,

    You lucky buggers,

I love earthquakes (well anything under dangerous). Having lived in Hokitika you get uused to these things. They are so powerful (geography geek) and a great reminder of who/what is in charge.

My two fav were when I was young lying on my bed reading and next second I was on the floor, it was like someone had done a wave with a rug - just one big bump.

Second and most embarrising Franz Joseph Glacier in the pub on the toilet (literally) and it sounded like someone was jumping on ceiling, I came out of the tolet to the whole pub erupting in laughter at me.

    http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2007/01/is_apple_the_ne.html

Happy new year all, but not it seems for Apple.

What's with America and lawsuits, I just don't get it? Surely a brand has the right to protect its place. I might be way off the mark here, but if this works against Apple, microsoft and zune, vodafone and all others must be very nervous too?

As one of the comments on the wired site says just say no if it does'nt work on your device. Most windowze software doesn't work on my mac, do I sue their arses?

Sorry to be a tad gruumpy to start the year off, but this is bollocks, can apple counter sue for to quote Mr Foreman "being a dumb ass"?

or I could give the title of my thesis

"Towards a New Median Enabled Weather Environment"

then go on to say how sad a bugger I am doing final corrections before running it off to the printer tomorrow morning.

I can't wait to play with my two wee boys again, life...
