  • New Herald site,

    illness in the ranks

Yikes, sorry about that. Best laid plans etc...

Last week of my thesis lets hope I don't need to put a splash page up ;-)

I'll give you guys top marks for better treatment for the advertising on Stuff. The banner adds on the herald are a dog, but what can you do. Design a nice site and the adds are ugly (not to mention too big).

Nice gallery BTW. very clean. He's a footballing god despite the brain failure (mind you he did nut an Italian footballer, that should happen for them just walking on the pitch).

Both sites get 10/10 for modernisation. You guys get 9/10 for giving each newspaper more of an identity than before (been a long time Stuff reader).

Also Stuff loads faster. I know Dunedin is almost the bottom of the world, and varsity connection has slowed to a craw (pay the bill Otago) recently, but the Heralds site is a dog to load, a dead dog. I've given up on it a couple of times in the last 24hrs.

    Is that enough sucking up?

  • New Herald site,

I was going over the two new designs wednesday and the Stuuff redesign wasn't meant to be rolled out for a while yet.

What is the value of a splash page and your business isn't operating just because your competition has rolled their site.

The herald looks great and Russell your right the css and metatags are great.

This site Newsdesigner mainly looks at actual newspaper redesigns (whou would have thought there were enough going on to sustain a web site...).

They have some really interesting stuff.

Most stuff by Mario Garcia is pretty well done. A few actual rags could do with a shake up to mirror their cyberselfs.

Somewhat disturbed at the dive this thread has taken and being a father of two, I have to add my 5 cents worth (that will be a sign of one's age soon).

The Wiggles, you have to be joking. It is one show that if my son catches on telly I have to immediately put a video of Little Einsteins on.

The Wiggles. Considering how much money they have made are taking the proverbial. The production is beyond amatuer, I've seen better production on Alt Tv (no disrepect), and music is just shite. Why didn't they filter some of the money back into writers, sets, production, argh. It might appeal to kids, but considering that adults have to be in the rooms they might have made the show a little less painful.

Thankfully kids being kids, he loves the classics like on the Don Linden cd's. I guess its abuse of some kind, but my 3 year old likes Morningwood (http://www.morningwoodrocks.com/) and Salmonella Dub. The sky music channel Kids isn't too bad.

As for the shoddy iTunes at least they don't have the Wiggles on there.

Yikes what a rant, don't get me started on myspace... that's another post.

As for the Cambell Live take on iTunes launch, the guest seemed to think (as many commentators do) that iTunes is used to only transfer music to ipods. Well in many cases yes, but as my laptop is also my DVD player (s-Video out) and connnected to stereo at home, iTunes for me is used 99% of the time to actually play music (home and work). Unfortunately its becoming in danger of being bloatware, it now actually takes time to load. I hope apple rememeber those of use who just want a dammed good music app that isn't a victim of convergence.

a really bad hack that I know of is get a copy of Audio Hijack and rip the audio while it's playing on iTunes.

    clunky but works

I can't live without AudioHijack. there's a copy of it on mac support if you are still on campus.

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

    Holly Crap,

I take it the artists have no say in the music reviews on iTunes.

this for The Who's Last an average but ok live album from their 1982 farewell tour.

Who's last is a tepid and utterly forgettable album

Wow!!! May I add as a mad Who fan, it's not thie rbest work, but this sort of review should be reserved for NZ Idol winners not the who.
