  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Unless the past three decades don't count I guess..maybe they don't if you're an 'average band' wondering why you can't pull a crowd and tossing around blame.

awww, come on man, you'll hurt my feelings if you say things like that..... no wait, I'm fine, completely secure in my own tastes what ever they might be and not looking for someone else to validate my opinions on musical greatness.
I'm fine with you loving both the hip and the hop. knock yourself out wicki wicki wicki etc.

are we going to analyze your musical output? didn't you play bass in a band somewhere last century?

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

    you are not

simon, wha'ts wrong with you man. its not about me, its about live music venues. I'm tellingyou about the music venues in nz and you're teling me I'm full of shit. you're bringing in fact and figures from the rest of the world on an nz centric website and saying everything is rosey and going forward. fine, believe that if you want.

and since you're so concerened about my well being the last 2 gigs I played in auckland were well attended. I'm fine. I didnt lose any money. just the way I like it.
The people I played with who seem to be in demand say they won't do other gigs unless they break even cos it costs them too much. go figure?

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

may have some vibrancy about it.

that's cos you're hip and with the kids man.
all depends what circles you move in though don't it.
me, not so much with the tagging and ass crack pants.
maybe that's a look that works for you, i'm not judging,

as for "perhaps the dominant", you don't seem too sure, you want to chck some charts for that?
    you auckland centric kinda guy.
didn't see a lot of it in oamaru myself,

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Oh robbery. Are you a 'hiphop sucks' person? Don't be that guy!

I purposely didn't say anything of the sort, I just thought it was a high claim to make and a partially irrelevant one too, what's genre got to do with i?.
I notice you didn't show your colours on that comment either. you want to sit on the fence on it too?

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

And there they are on eMusic. Fancy that, some kids from Christchurch just earned a couple of my dollars.

and your point. didn't you just read me saying their parents are funding their career. not emusic downloads. the misconception is that music (film or books) is cheap to do. there is no cost, and individual instantiation (ie one group or artist) of it it can go on for ever as it is. I'm saying it can't.
I've lost track of why this is a point of contention. oh hang on ,yep, 101 pages.
    continue.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

But hasn't that always been the case? Haven't acts often had to pay their own way for a time?

ask simon, he's old and has his finger on the pulse.

my observation was not so much pay their own way for a while. I think the LED's are already at a valid place in the cultural hierarchy of the country. there isn't necessarily anywhere to go. They're respected, they're championed by a media mogul, and yet they can't pay for their next album. good will only goes so far. that's all i'm saying. and no one owes them a living but if russell wants to hear what they come up with next (it may be gems it may be turds) then the order of things isn't going to ensure that and all the emusic listed tracks they can put up isn't really going to help.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

He said *one of* the most important, not *the* most important.

and he used the word vibrant too. so can I take it you're in agreement with that sweeping statement.

can we have the top 5 lists of most important and or vibrant please.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

things like hip-hop, which stretched copyright's boundaries and led to one of the most vibrant and important musical genres of all time.

I've left this one till last, I still don't know how to milk the best out if it, it's such a pompous statement on so many levels that I can't quite choose the right one to do it the justice it deserves. I'm going to fuck it up which ever way I go.

    ok here goes...

    you what?

    nah, that wasn't any good,

    says you?

see I told you this was going to be hard. I so wanted to do a one line take down but its not going to be that easy.

I'm sure all the other music genres (are you including classical music in that broad and sweeping statement) are thanking you for letting them off the hook of the pressure of being top dog genre. everyone wants a piece of you when you're the top.
