Hard News: Someone has to be accountable…, in reply to
Yesterday, Mr Hide and Auckland Transition Agency boss Mark Ford distanced themselves from the projected $576 million bill to complete a new computer system, saying their job was only to get a basic system in place for the Super City on day one.
I see it clearly now, the savings of a Super city only made sense only if you hid the true cost of making it happen.
So to save the estimated $76 million by getting a super city we now need to spend $576 million on a computer for it. You plonker Rodney!
He and Mark Ford should be given a teaspoon each and made to dig the Britomart Rail link tunnel. -

It's human nature to understand things that we can relate to such as a bottle of wine or a set of golf clubs but when a millions of dollars are talked about we glaze over with incomprehension.
If you explain to someone that if they sat down and wrote out a cheque for a thousand dollars every minute non-stop for 17 hours, that would add up to around a million dollars then the enormity of the sum starts to sink in.
But of course we're not talking of just one million dollars here, -
You would think this is one subject that John Campbell would get his teeth into for weeks. The current silence around it is spooky, if one were into conspiracy theories you could almost think that TV3's recent government bail-out is being held over them to keep schutm.
There needs to be a name and shame of all the people involved in the mess. Not just making Rodney a scapegoat but outing the overpaid corporate trough snuffling numpties of the ATA and their public purse sucking consultant leeches. -
Done and I challenge DPF to match or exceed it.

I agree with Gabor. Kidzone had quality programmes, many of them educational (including the wonderful NZ made Wot Wots) and no ads. It was great pre-breakfast fill-in entertainment for our 3 year old.
I know we've got a huge budget deficit and Christchurch needs rebuilding but why give the kids a kick in the slats? -
I think it might be time to take Gingercrush seriously, get down with the oppressed workers and have a discussion about gruel.

2.5 billion is a pretty big number to get wrong, maybe to save money, treasury should be replaced by Paul the octopus's younger brother. That should save a big chunk and probably give just as reliable estimates..

I don't really see what difference it makes in this situation whether the government is losing $12.5b or $15b.
It's the problem with mindnumbingly large numbers. Ask someone if it's ok that their pay packet is $1,200 this week instead of $1,500 then they get upset. Multiply that by a million and it's "What's a billion here or there?". It's a serious lot of money.

The whole thing has been such a shambles. Maybe they should change the sign to Wallywood!

Did the fashion of turned up collars come about in order to hide their red necks?
