Matthew, do the people running TiVos locally have to manually switch Sky channels on their boxes in order to record the different shows?
Yep, what Russell said :-)

in accessable format (which I'm assuming the sky pvr and Tivos generally don't have)
I have several friends running TiVos locally, and yes they are able to grab shows off them - they're just big Linux boxes really. The Sky PVR has no such capability though, the only accessible output is analogue.

Fee, did you mean Carly Flynn? Our PVR lives its life at 12%!

From Mac developer David Watanabe, re: Apple TV and support for non-iTunes video content:
Well, I asked an Apple rep working the Macworld floor and he was very quick to assure me that any video content that iTunes can play can be played on the Apple TV, it’s not restricted only to content bought at the iTunes Store. That’s good news for anyone who prefers alternate sources for video content.

The NY Times' David Pogue gets some hands-on time with the iPhone and Fortune looks at how they kept it a secret...

Oddly enough, my original e-mail -- the one that prompted the reply from TVNZ posted above -- was to suggest that TVNZ go with the iTunes platform from the outset.
Matt, I don't think this is possible at present. The iTunes Store only sells music videos and Pixar short films outside of North America (no films or TV) and the Fairplay DRM Apple employs is not open for other providers to use.

Oh yeah, and the makers of the BlackBerry and the Treo lost a combined market cap of close to US$2.2 billion off the back of Apple's announcement.

More information on today's announcements from Apple... this post says that the iPhone will not support user installable apps (at least, not without a little hackery). Here's some pics of it in the flesh.
And here's a post about the Apple TV which suggests it will output to any TV that supports a progressive-scan DVD player.

Dashboard Widgets in potentially useful and appealing shock!
Yep, and because Mac OS X widgets are coded in plain ol' HTML and JavaScript, it won't be long before someone (or Apple) allows user-created widgets to be uploaded and used alongside the "official" ones.

plus they'll have full 3G implementation by then.
And capacities larger than 8GB...
