Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to
I feel woefully uninformed about this issue and so I'm having trouble following a lot of the discussion here, but, Lucy, your two comments have been superb, I really appreciate what you've said here. Thanks.

[Shakes head in disbelief.]
Whence the disbelief? I've googled myself on classroom computers to demonstrate to students just how easy it is to dig stuff up. Then I've googled some of them and they realise potential employers could easily find stuff they'd rather not be known. Young people don't tend to be all that great at this "consequences" thing.

But, NZ Herald, what's with the stupid "Censored" graphic? I find it hard to think of a less appropriate graphic for this story.

Some from Wednesday morning.
(Is hakuna matata actually Swahili, as the note in Chinese at the bottom of the poster says? Apparently, yes.

Wow Chris, it’s a pea-souper. Hope not too hard to breath.
It’s improving. Missing buildings are reappearing. I think the sun is buring off the fog (雾/wù) component of today’s weather (雾霾, in which the 霾(mái) is officially translated as “haze”). And fortunately my asthma’s never really been bothered by smog.
Actually, that first one acquired a pretty interesting colour simply by being converted to a .jpg.

Can you see the tower blocks less than 500 metres away? Me neither...
And I can make this tower block much more visible in the photo than it is in reality. On the landscape setting the camera wouldn't take this photo, and I suspect that's because it couldn't "see" the building I was focussing on (hint: Not the closest one with the solar water heaters - guess those families won't be getting much hot water today).
#just another yellow smog warning.

Hard News: The Future of Television, in reply to
And let’s not start on the comedy …
I thought that died the moment Rowan Atkinson decided on Mr Bean.
We also forget that Shortland Street put brown people on screen and made them stars, presented gay characters and had them loved. It’s as disruptive as anything else our television has ever produced.
I always hated Shortland Street, but that is an excellent point.
