  • Southerly: Coming Up For Air,

Be nice to see some figures on the air-pollution effects of wider use of eco-logburners (currently allowed only if replacing an older solid-fuel burner).

Especially if they are pellet burners- those things only work while the electricity is going-

    Definitely.
Especially if they are only pellet-burners. (They dont work when the power is off.)

  • Southerly: Coming Up For Air, in reply to Hebe,

More people die as a result of cold mouldy houses here than from woodsmoke from logburners (

    Absolutely!
As someone who lives in a cold mouldy house(only in winter!) - despite 2 log fires - I couldnt agree more...
Would support Ruth to the max-

    Hebe & Sof’ – yep.
When the environment is familiar, so are the creatures therein.*
And even if drunken, you dont make the mistake of calling a glass eel, a whitebait**
*Boats are created-tures as far as I am concerned (I dont know a sailor/waterperson who doesnt feel a liveliness about them.)
And the difference between Watson’s boat and a distinctive ketch is every bit as much obvious as the distinction between a young elver and all kinds of whitebait
**(and believe, after 41 years at that game, I can tell my g.maculatus from my g. argenteus. Anyone ever wants to know what species are present in the West Coast catch is welcome to use my wonderful (sigh! One of my gifts to humanity!)

O, DoC offices have a perfectly lovely little pamphlet that will give you all that info for free…using Rob’s drawings. I do miss him e-

    +1, Hebe & Sof'

-the thing that has always got me about that case is - the ketch.
Water-taxi drivers dont make that kind of error AND a similar vessel, according to description, was seen elsewhere in ANZ waters...

  • Up Front: Towards a Sex-Positive Utopia,

Damn, my bonobo comment got eaten…essentially it was:

**It certainly is amongst bonobo! But then, bonobo – unlike their chimpanzee relatives- use sex/sexual pleasure to heal animosities in their societies. Or just to comfort one another. It -in all it's awesome variety-is not just for procreative or dominance purposes.

I would make a modest bet that asexuality will never be found amongst bonobo!

  • Up Front: Towards a Sex-Positive Utopia, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

f you're NOT interested in sex, that doesn't mean you're somehow broken or a frigid God-bothering prude or must have been sexually abused. Seriously. I've been through a couple of quite lengthy periods where fucking wasn't really on my to-do list. And that's OK.

    Absolutely this.
I am a very sensual life-loving being - except in this one area. Asexuality isnt - as far we know to date- caused by anything. It's just the the way a certain small percentage of rats/rams/baboons/humans are.* As is the case with a much larger percentage of humans -not to mention many many other species - who/which are homosexual.

I have a feeling - no more than that- that your heterosexual vanilla couple are very much a minority among Homo sap. sap...

I have publically supported Peter Ellis’s claim to innocence, especially because of Lynley Hood’s extraordinarily good work, but also because of the craptalk that was running round Chchch at the time…it did not focus on Ellis. It did focus on ‘prominent persons.’ Note: Peter didnt kill any one.

I am sure in my own mind that David Bain is the guilty person (i.e he shot all his family) for many good reasons – curiously, not least, because I am very shortsighted…and also, if you look calmly at the drawings Bain made, he was practisiing shooting at the top of human heads. Which is what he did.

DANCING is a whole other ballgame-
    I cant do it-
    but I can sing-
I can sing kids to sleep
I can sing sick people into comfort (2 0f my sisters can literally touch sick people into sleep) and
I can sing people to dance-
I have been told, by olds, I
    can sing people to war.
I do know that I can halt people with a call.
I dont really want to do that kind of stuff.
