Hard News: Rape and unreason, in reply to
It was interesting having her perspective - I too am a shouter, as you know, so it was just a different point of view. And thanks for the link to the submissions page!

Yes, and we talked about that too. She seemed to feel that the louder voices, were being heard, though, and not the quieter ones.

I spoke to a dear friend of mine last night who had followed the whole thing on Twitter, and was, not distressed, but perturbed. She wondered about the whole point of retweeting, and the endless tweets that linked to the article, and other blogs. She said it was all preaching to the converted, and then she said she would see a single tweet by someone that said "I'll go away and cry now", and no attention was given to that. She said she hoped that she thought perhaps that people considered their RTing to be activism, and expressed her frustration around that. That people were tweeting at the Herald, when the person who really makes the decisions will not be the one reading all the tweets, every single last one, but an employee who is paid to do that, and how distressing and demoralising they may have found that. I relay these thoughts because I, too, believe they bear thinking about.
I complained to the Herald, and I hope others do too. It's important. -

I've thought like this in the past, and it was you who helped to change my mind on that (and god knows how much other stuff). And so, this morning, I have been able to talk with a woman, younger than me, who was espousing the same sort of ideology as your silly man.

Obviously, they only tweeted a portion of that night's jobs. It seemed very quiet to me.

Beautifully written. Particularly poignant for me since the loss of my best friend, who seemed to share many of Barney's fine qualities. The ability with people, to accept and draw them closer. I am so sorry for your loss.

Funnily enough, my Vector cheque came in the post in the last couple of days...... What I would like to say is this: PAS is the place that started off, for me, an age of making new friends. I never expected to make new friends after 40. I had always thought I wouldn't. And here we are - because of PAS, and meeting some of you, I joined Twitter. And so it goes. Thank you, Russell. You're a good friend, a good man. I am delighted to be a part of this community, and even more delighted to be able to pay back some of your kindnesses to me over the years, and to keep on doing so.

Tears in the eyes. Tears of pride. What a long long way he's come, and what a delightful young man he's grown into.

And now we get down to it, don't we? I think, Dean, you might have a gripe about 1) this community and 2) Russell. There is only one way of fixing this: you realise that, don't you? You've walked into a party where you don't like the host, and you can't stand the other guests. Doesn't sound like much of a party, does it?
