If this is becoming the general dealing-with death-via-the-internet thread (and thank you Emma, for writing it) … firstly my sympathies to previous posters, especially Rex, I do so know that mood.
My brother-in-law committed suicide a few days ago. Pretty much out of the blue, he was in a bad way (since learnt) but had never shown any indication of taking that way out…
I only saw him a couple of times a year at family gatherings and we didn’t have much in common so it’s not having huge effect on me (yet) (effect felt nevertheless…), but my parents had taken him into the family and into their hearts and were down there trying to help him sort himself out … they’re devastated and there’s little I can do except keep in touch and be prepared to travel where/when/if I’m needed to support them.

I'm not sure if this link has made it into this thread yet - a bit of science

Up Front: That's Inappropriate!, in reply to
Tour de First Year is a KAOS award – part of the jokey End of Year Awards. I’ve no idea if it’s still given, but I do know its origin.
Nope, it's one of those occasional historical mentions now. The gender mix is rather more even as well. (And thanks for the tip on its ultimate origin [adds to collection of lore].)

Had to turn off typekit in Chrome on XP, but it's bearable in Firefox.
One thing I have noticed looking at the list of my comments is that the the heading/time of what will now be the second-to-last I have made runs -through- the little infinity sign/permalink on it's way to the next line.
Good thing the site remembered logins across the rebuild, because it seems I'd forgotten my password (and the better apart of an hour has passed, the recovery email still hasn't arrived - though I do know better than to assume email is instant) :D

Following on from Lucy's train of thought (and derailing slightly) one assumes that some of the bookstore and publisher shares also wind up in the coffers of Inland Revenue. They do quite well, don't they?

Looking at the blurbs for the Christchurch mayoral candidates what leaps out at me is the way both Bob & Jim start the majority of their sentences with the word "I".
The way this contrasts with the styles of the other blurbs just adds to the similarity.
