Righto then, the Bird of the Year has been decided. In case you missed it, it was… going to be announced at 6.30pm tonight. I guess on the news.
I’ll get my own decision out of the way early.
It was, as Sofie suggested, a difficult decision. So I wimped out and got my kids to make it for me.
1st prize: Gareth for the two Kea. Seems this stood out for all ages.
2nd prize: Hang on, there wasn’t supposed to be a second prize…
Oh well.2nd prize: Jeremy Gray for the penguin rescue (Miss 10 approves)
3rd prize: David Hood. (We picked the Kaka, but there were several possibilities)
First, as mentioned, is your choice of a print from Sam Clark’s collection of New Zealand birds. You can choose either A4 or A3.
2nd and 3rd will be a set of three cards by Sam, as described on his website.
If your emails are there, I’ll get in touch, or please send through delivery details in the reply to address.
Thanks everyone for all the posts.
Capture away…

You could do a 1st 2nd and 3rd Jackson ;)
But I only have one prize!
Maybe I'll use the Internet List Randomizer. Or something. ;-)

Gareth’s skua seems not to be there, although its caption is.
Have fixed the caption problem. Had decided on the wonderful Kea pairing for Gareth's photo, so the Skua flew away. ;-)

Hi there everyone.
This has been a lot of fun, and don't let me stop you posting more.
Just thought I'd narrow down the entrants to a selection, for which I decided to have a play with Storify. You can see them here.
Have also enjoyed the stories and contributions from those without cameras at hand, so thanks all for joining in.
Unless you all start liking the photos on the Storify page, and thereby giving me an ad hoc third party voting system, I'll pick one tomorrow and let the lucky winner know. Will then arrange the print to be sent directly to you.
Cheers

That's setting the bar pretty high Gareth. What a stunning shot.

Hat tip to George Darroch for finding this tasty, intriguing Cure remix
Plus 1, fantastic remix.
That really is a tasty treat.

Welcome, um, Kt? What a stunning flower to get us started. First poster from Colombia, as far as I know. We look forward to more contributions from you.
Cheers.

Feeling all right Jac?
Perfectly fine thanks. ;-)
Haruki Murakami is one of my favourite authors, and that’s a quote from his book The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Seemed to fit
Nice grill. The truck has a strangely St Bernard quality. Is that a little brandy collar under the number plate?

well...
A Murakami moment.
When you're supposed to go down, find the deepest well and go down to the bottom. When there is no flow, stay still. If you resist the flow, everything dries up. If everything dries up, the world is darkness. 'I am he and/ He is me:/ Spring nightfall.' Abandon the self, and there you are.”

An oldie, reposted.
Nice little photo story Venetia. Thanks.
Only 8 days to go for the Bird of the Year voting. You know, just in case you haven't already voted for the Kakapo. Or whatever takes your fancy. At the moment it looks like the Karearea/NZ Falcon is going to take it out. Is that our need for speed, or Raybon Kan?
Some great shots in here, and I'll start compiling a short list for the promised prize. On reflection, rather than being prescriptive, I'll even let you choose one of the many prints Sam Clark has on offer in his Birds of New Zealand Collection.
