Well, Russell, if you want to be cynical about the heavily spun and processed nature of modern politics you're preaching to the amen corner. But surreptitiously taping politicians while looking for that 'Macaca Moment' - and putting one together with some "unfair editing" as you put it if your prey isn't obliging - doesn't seem like much of an advance, just the same game with a lot of disingenuous bullshit about "citizen journalism" and "digital democracy".
But, hey,I guess we're all living in a scopophiliac world where we're increasingly comfortable with (or oblivious to) CCTV cameras on every corner, the faux intimacy of You Tube and Facebook; where voyeurism as infotainment has never been cheaper or more popular while actual newsgathering and analysis is being starved of resources and airtime.
I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree on whether it's one worth living in, let alone one that actually adds anything of value to political discourse.

InternationalObserver:
Gee, You Tube is full of saddos who need to get a life (preferably their own)? I have three words for you: LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE! :(
And before Tom Semmens gets all pissed off at me again, I'd like to think Helen Clark could occasionally scratch her arse and poke a vegetable without some freak posting it on You Tube so some right wing-nut can froth about how this proves what a dirty, heartless bitch she is.

I think you'll find that gift is called "practise and hard work".
Up to a point - even Bill Clinton's harshest critics would say the man has what you can only call charisma, and I don't really know if you can learn it, or even if it says anything much about character. One of those X-factor qualities that bigger brains than mine have tried (and failed) to quantify, I suspect.
-
That was telling and disgusting.
Nah, you know what's really telling and disgusting - that it's probably going to be a matter of when not if we see "guerilla video" of Helen Clark scratching her arse leading the six o'clock news. (Not that that would be a good thing, Mr. Christie. :) )

Tom:
Um... OK. Thanks for sharing, as I don't live anywhere near either Clark or Key I doubt any Hallmark moments of that magnitude are on the horizon unless I start doing the creepy stalker thing. Anyway, I'm sure 'patrician' Key sends a serf to clear the mailbox.:)
But seriously, Tom, if you think those mall walkabouts aren't stage-managed until they squeak, you're rather naive. And please note that I'm not being partisan about it - everybody does them, and they're all ridiculous.
-
I can't imagine Helen Clark getting five feet without someone saying hello, smiling, or coming up to talk to her about something.
I'm sure there's a media minder who just earned their Christmas bonus with that one. God, those 'spontaneous' walkabouts are so contrived I just end up feeling embarrassed for everyone concerned.

Eww... I guess the kitty p0rn had to come sooner or later. :) And I guess we know who does the vege shopping in the Brown-Rae household - you'd probably never eat the greens again after going shopping with me.

SKY had the chance to get Al Jaz last year and plumped for Fox (the propaganda channel of the Republican Party) instead.
Oh Lord, when does Karl Rove sleep... To be quite blunt, every time I see one of those sickeningly creep billbaords/bus shelter ads for the new -ish
http://citv.co.nz/__Crime and Investigation Network__ channel (!!!)
I don't think being on Sky's roster is really much to aspire to. There must be some elegant equation to express the direct inverse relationship between the number of Sky channels, and the overall quality of the content.A little hint to Sky's advertising department, whoever came up with the good idea of putting a jolly little factoid about mass murderers preferring public places around the Britomart Transport hub deserves to be taken out the back for a good kicking.

So I deleted it, sorry.
Ah, could you please delete my comment in reply? While I'm quite happy to remind David Herkt of his own offensive net activities before he gets to comfy on the moral high horse, it really looks like a random flame-bait (not exactly the tone you want to encourage on PAS) without the context.

For those of us who aren't particularly tech-savvy, what is a 'public beta' and does it need to be treated with caution?
