Hard News: Steven Joyce: Prick or Treat, in reply to
The vast majority of people who might embark on a science degree aren't aiming or expecting to be tenured academics though.
But NZ doesn't have grad-level jobs for people with science degrees, either. I know several people with reasonably good degrees in bioscience who have been unable to get any kind of grad-level job (often winding up in IT/teaching/overseas).
That suggests to me that we're a long way from any kind of knowledge based economy.

it's hard to escape from the connection
Only if you're a xenophobic racist.
I have nothing to do with the person named [Mr "bought and paid for" Dunne]
Except for:
It’s well known [Peter George has] been involved with UnitedFuture after they asked me to stand for them in 2011 (http://yournz.org/tag/pete-george/)
There ain't no delete button on the webz.
Also, just to deal to the inaccurate precis "they asked me to stand": GEORGE, Pete UFNZ 176

Mass enthusiasm for a German politician?
What could possibly go wrong?
Hey, why not promote an ideology that regards an entire people as "tainted" and not acceptable participants in civil society.
Better make sure no Russians ever run for office (Stalin), Vietnamese (Pol Pot) or even Australians (Bligh, etc).
And this from the man who has no problem with his mate and namesake Dunne taking cash bribes from foreign tobacco multinationals.

See Bright’s lengthy, ridiculous comment on Kiwiblog.
I'd rather not.
1. Kiwiblog
2. Penny Bright[EDIT: Penny's same TL;DR appears on http://thestandard.org.nz/john-key-prepares-for-helensville-debate/.
And I would say that holding a candidates meeting and not inviting all candidates is pretty unreasonable, even if not illegal. ]

Hopefully as many people as possible will go, ask unacceptable questions, heckle and get thrown out by Key's Stormtroopers to join a mob of several thousand baying for blood outside.

abolishing list MPs
So we have a National/Labour duopoly, with both sides passively alternating and implementing similar hard right/soft right policies? I think not.
If you don't like a parties list MPs, don't vote for the party.

I'd heard a whisper that Slater is after a good list spot and Collins has promised him one once Key (who prefers not to have any more convicted crims in his caucus than strictly necessary) is out of the way.

a member of an exploitative settler class
Same accent as Tony Benn. Or Engels. It's what you say, not how you say it.

Although the other thing is that UK pubs just get a lot more trade. When I worked in the City, we'd go for a couple of pints pretty much every night, and so would a million other bods. Which means an average London pub pours a lot of beer.
NZ, most bars have to make their profits on Saturday and Sunday. People just don't go out that much.

Some sums:
NZ duty on a $9, 425ml, 5% ABV micro-pint = 58c ($27 / litre of pure C2H5OH)
UK duty on a $6, 568ml, 3.5% ABV proper pint = 75c (GBP18.74/litre)Also, the UK ale will be cask conditioned (as in <strike>warm</strike> room temperature and flat) making it more difficult and expensive to handle. (Selling traditional pints is more analogous to the work of a barista than hooking the pipes up and pouring away).
So I suspect we are being stiffed, at least by the big two foreign brewers. (In the case of Weatherspoon's suppliers, their barrelage is going to be up their with the green stuff, I suspect).
