Ha! Done it now – rough and ready, It’s Spring, man!

I originally had some guitar noodling over mine, but decided to borrow the soundtrack in the end. Will have to go original next time.

    Music Videos even, owl?

Tried my hand at that video thing. All photos you've seen before of course. Bit of fun for a cold Auckland afternoon.

Whereas what they’re currently using (lower on the emetics and electro-convulsive therapy than in the 80s) has a fairly low success rate and tends to make kids throw themselves off bridges.

Just stumbled on this Rainbow Labour Green Paper submission to the overall Green Paper for Vulnerable Children (with others in links).

The fact that GLBT are three times more likely to be bullied at school and, heartbreakingly, five times more likely than their straight peers to commit suicide indicates that our communities need a push to foster equality and acceptance so that these young people can feel like they belong.

    Yep, my heart is broken.

    I thought they only served G & Ts. If only I’d known…

Just been thinking of venues around Auckland which weren’t so prominent, but have strange resonance.

In 1992 we ventured to Howick By The Sea, to see The Chills, with Biplane, during the Soft Bomb tour. I have this memory of it feeling like a sports clubrooms.

    1980.

Beating us by 6 years. Highlighting why so many of our peers lived such traumatised lives in their adolescence, and beyond.

26 years is not a very long time ago. I still remember it for starters.

Thanks again Emma. A society that allows concepts like reparative therapy to exist, let alone have a platform, hardly seems a very healthy one. In fact not even a very humane one.

When Barrowman talks of how lucky he was he didn't stay in Scotland, and that he might have taken his own life, you get a sense of the real danger and harm that can come from entrenched, even institutionalised, intolerance.

It is time for a change. Long overdue in fact.

Some pictures from New Brighton, on a sparkling spring Sunday.

    Brilliant. The sky is intense.

Also, since we're here thanks to Jonathan, I'll link to his post from BB 1987.

    Wow! He was so young.
