Any colour you like, as long it's black and white. Some have white-dipped tails and paws. The squeaking is tremendous when they want feeding. The oldest ones have doubled their birth size already.

Pic no 2: an origami of puppies.

My inner headline writer is thrilled (and in tribute to the late Frank of the Dom): "Dunne like a dog's dinner" . I suppose he'll be retiring to Dunshaggin soon.

It would suit National to call an election this year rather than next, given the way the polls are trending.

Good god ... now we have eight puplets with looking like more to come. Cara an excellent mum which is good: I have no experience of this at all.

One for you Jackie: our 8 year old labrador has been getting very fat. She was a pedigree breeder's dog and we were given her four years ago. She was the breeder's favourite and last of a line of champions, so the breeder wanted to keep her gene pool in reserve "just in case". We l ruled out preganancy for a number of reasons, not the least being she was too old to have pups.
Last weekend her nipples swelled, and we concluded it was a false pregnancy. Yesterday morning she started panting: I googled, intensively. Then pop, out went her stomach sideways at midday.

So a visit to the vet last evening: pregnant and due to pop within 24 hours! Shock and awe in the household. This morning she has just delivered number 5 black puplet-- all with lab noses ,ears and tails and white stars on their fat little bellies.

You just never know what every day will bring! We're all stunned. Will post pics...

  • OnPoint: What Andrew Geddis Said, But…, in reply to Lilith __,

This article caused me to shout at my computer today

I was so incensed I couldn't post without intemperance so I shut down the computer. Key and Joyce really, really want to stick it to the People's Republic of Christchurch, and they see the rebuild as dealing to it once and for all. Those comments are an attempt to smoke out any lurking mayoral contenders early so the Nats and Parker have a chance to kneecap them. And a wee test to see how that line plays: they do not know how to find resonance with Christchurch people so I expect all sorts of games will be tried.

Our city contributes near 10 per cent of the National party vote: they need us on side to win in 2014, and they need Chch to be seen by the majority of Kiwis to be on side: the fair play/natural justice perception of the post-earthquake city is the key to achieving that aim. Just saying...
