  • Hard News: Entertainment news,

"Is this what they mean by the Church Militant?"

You can't go around doing things like that to politicians!

I hope they threw the book at him!

  • Field Theory: Dancing in the Dark,

Ī totally blame Carlos Spencer for the trend of every halfback and first-five attempting those kicks at every touch of the ball for the years following.

  • Hard News: Entertainment news,

Dennis Plant is a stupid right-wing bigot whose talents exist in direct inverse proportion to his ego. OK, you've got a type -- so what?

Well it's still early in the season. You can't break type every episode.

It sounds like the perfect premise for political satire (note I have only seen a few episodes of the first series). Have someone be incredibly awkward (while avoiding obvious jokes stolen from the office) and have them offset with the straight guy who is quite competent.

  • Field Theory: Dancing in the Dark,

Weird. My recollection is that I was watching the unveiling with you. I'm sure both of us turned to each other with a "did you just see that" look on our faces.

But to be honest I was so out of it ...

Constructed memories are weird things. But one thing is certain: when Helen Clark rang us up straight afterwards and was like "WTF!" and we were all "yeah Helen that was nuts!"

For any who may not have seen it, The Onion:

    Hadyn, MySky.

When the magic MySky fairies come round and give me MySky for free, that's when I'll use it. (I suppose I could finally build myself that PVR I always keep putting off)

    MyyyyyyySkyyyyy...

Though it is a compelling argument...

Now I see that the Pretender is full of Quaxing, I understand it's late night slot.

  • Field Theory: Dancing in the Dark,

There's good blog post in missing vital sports moments. I missed Mike Tyson biting Holyfield 'cos I was in the loo, for example.

'cept my "problem" is that I don't miss them. I saw Tyson bite Holyfield.

I even saw the streaker in the 2004 Superbowl right after the nipple slip. No one else (exaggeration) even remembers it. I was remember being shocked that someone could get onto the field (it being the security-conscious post-911 era and all). He was leveled by linebacker Teddy Bruschi.

    Kimi Raikkonen is brilliant

    Yeah he's ok.
I still can't think of a driver I could really get behind though.

the new series of The Pretender is tremendous.

    Ahhh,

Do these results imply that MLB games are the most competitive and NFL games the least? Not necessarily!
The length of the season is a significant factor in the variability in the winning fraction. In a scenario where the outcome of a game is completely random, the total number of wins performs a simple random walk, and the standard deviation is inversely proportional to the
square root of the number of games played. Generally, the shorter the season, the larger standard deviation. Thus, the small number of games is partially responsible for the large variability observed in the NFL.
