  • Hard News: Dial O for Obama,

    When you say :

the long-unreported story of Fonterra farmers' dirty streams

Do you just mean on TV?
We locals have been being educated by our local paper. For example
this feature in the Waikato Times

One of my university contemporaries at Waikato University has been researching a method for stopping nitrogen compunds leaching into waterways that basically involved burying sawdust along the sides of paddocks bordering the rivers and streams. Here is a quick reference to Denitrification Walls

The problem IS being thought about out here in the provinces.

  • Hard News: Citizens,

However, current Labour Minister of Finance Michael Cullen has kept his spending even lower: 15.6%. Of course, he has actually spent more, because the economy has expanded.

This is where economics does my head in. Did Cullen plan on spending 15.6% of GDP or was his planned spending percentage level based on previous GDP figures which when the economy expanded during the year miraculously became a lower percentage...

I know that there are always forecasts and budgets for the future, but it always seems that the media talking-head economics "experts" spend the majority of their air time explaining why things didn't happen as they were expected to.

  • Hard News: Citizens,

Anyway, thanks to Tiki for getting in touch (and sending me a copy of his track!). I have a lot of respect for the way he does things.

But did you like the track? Praising a muso for his PR skills is like praising a writer for his penmanship. Where is the love? (of the creative content, that is)

I'm just trying out the new Google Chrome Browser. Not Mac ready yet , or linux, but I like it. very snappy an full of tricky tweaks

Yep. I had a go with Google Chrome as well and was also impressed with its snappy performance.
However one thing I do in Firefox is put RSS feeds (like PAS, BBC etc.) on the Live Bookmark bar for ease of quick checking recent posts/stories. Have you figured out a way to do that in Chrome?

  • Field Theory: Horrors of the Past,

Wellington know how to win the Shield, they just don't know how to hold the Shield.

Who would have thunk it... sly Seinfeld-ian references in a sports blog!

    @Peter Darlington

I went to see Jean Pierre Rives France play Marlborough at Lansdowne Park in 1979

"Les Coqs" trained on the fields at my high school (Whangarei Boys' High Scool) during the '79 tour. Jean-Pierre Rives and Jean-Michelle Aguirre came to our 4th form French class to help us "parle français" .
All of us spotty teenagers were too intimidated to actually say anything to them in French. It was one of those "squirm-in-your-seat embarrassing" silences...

  • Island Life: I can see clearly now,

Better link to City of Sydney logo

  • Island Life: I can see clearly now,

    Does London have a logo?

    Does Paris have a logo?

Hell, does Sydney have a logo?

    London, Yes

    Paris, Yes

    Sydney, Yes

I couldn't link to just the logo in the Sydney one, but you get the idea...
London's is pretty boring, but it is the offish logo.

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

Also, if your reputation IS affected by public release of legally (and properly) suppressed evidence.... do you have a civil case against the party that released it?

IANAL but my bet would be "Yes". However I expect you would have to get in line behind the crown's criminal case for contempt and then be able to prove actual harm to be awarded any damages. Not an easy thing to do in real life for Joe/Jane Q. Citizen...
