  • Field Theory: Just one point in it,

The reports of the Bastareaud incident have vague statements of 2-5 PI or Maori in an unprovoked assult on him.
Now CCTV have 3 French players and 2 mystery girls entering their Hotel around 5am.

And the officer in charge of the investigation was today spouting off a number of very vague things.
He wouldn't confirm if Bastareaud was one of the three players arriving at 5am, he wouldn't say who the other players were, he wouldn't say whether they were involved in the incident and again confirmed that Bastareaud had said he was back at the hotel by 3.

    Cover-up by NZ?

  • Field Theory: Just one point in it,

Because my current location in Palmerston North prevented me from joining this delightful conversation, here's my responses.

Well, yes, I am sure someone within the AB's camp is responsible for monitoring what is being said in the media.

No, they pay me and my co-workers to do that, and we don't do any SKY programmes unless they pay extra.

Also, interested in your categorisation of Roko's game as a great one? I thought he did rather poorly - handling off (as per but highlighted here) and just not up to the speed test in certain cases. Seeing that funny little French winger outrunning a Fijian had me rather perplexed. He was certainly involved plenty, but not always in a positive way?

While I'll agree he wasn't as quick, he was very eager to try things. On defence he was solid, though a couple of times he was caught out-of-position after covering for someone else. The times he came off the wing and into the centres in a very Habana-esque fashion were fantastic.

Also Bowden(?) who played 1st-5 for Otago last season and I think 2nd-5 this season for the Highlanders looked to have most of the goods.

And is now off to Auckland, where he'll play no rugby for the Blues while Michael Fucking Witt takes the Highlanders and Otago starting possie.

He's trying hard like he always does but as they pointed out, he hasn't scored a test try for the ABs since the game v Romania in 2007 (7 tests ago for him) and given he's in the side to score tries that must indicate something just isn't happening for him.

How quickly we all forget his matchwinning try against Munster. [And although it wasn't a test in the dictionary sense of the word, tell me the All Blacks weren't tested].

I think it is bloody tasteless the way the NZRFU has taken the dead of WW1 and turned it into a marketing ploy for rugby. I don't believe it stands for anything those poor bastards that died in that war "stood" for, unless one counts jingoism and misplaced European Imperialism as an equally positive trait to rank commercialisation.

I thought it was in paying homeage to his captaincy of the 'Originals'? [whether they were the originals or the 1888 Natives team I'll leave it up to you to decide.]

There a lots of wingers in NZ faster, fitter and smarter than Roco is right now.

Same with Thorn, but I don't think anyone will be suggesting dropping him any time soon. Experience in the team is key right now.

Yours and the handful of others I heard from. And Tracey's stats show that he was at least doing his job to fairly good extent.

He still needs neon yellow headgear though.

BTW, talking about NFL in the off-season, post-draft? You oughta be ashamed of yourself.

Oh and possibly my favourite Eli moment was when he first played against the Chargers in 2005 and the fans booed and shook their noisemakers every time he was on the field, making it impossible for him to audible and resulting in several false starts/general confusion in the Giants' offence/sacks.

and it looks like LeBron will leave as soon as he can

I will be having words with you about this.

As to the Sounders, don't forget this actually happened.

And for the Pulse, don't forget they were cursed from the very beginning...

For #8 we want something like Lauaki, but plays well in black. Big busting runs off the back of the scrum, bouncing players off, but ball skills like Zinzan Brooke.

Why? Everyone else seems to be moving toward using the number 8 as an extra back. I mean, Spies is a reformed winger!

If there weren't so many complete newbies in the team due to injury, I'd suggest that they look for future talent in the position to step up to fill Rodney's boots in 5 years.

I'm guessing you didn't hear the press conference yesterday.
Hansen said there the best chance for Read to get into the All Blacks in a long-term position is at number 8, when So'oialo retires [Lauaki's name wasn't mentioned]. I forgot to mention yesterday, but Read plays number 8 in Air NZ Cup.

Smith also said that Messam is likely to play a role with the ABs in the future.

Not suggesting it because I'm not believing how big a difference it would make, but, that Wallabies match we lost last year... Wasn't Richie out then too, and back the next week?
