Hard News: Women and their representations, in reply to
Sian Elias would have been one of my picks, but that is a list to be proud of.
I’d agree with that. Would be nice to see a few more in the arts area too. And what about our female broadcasters? Angela D'Audney, for starters.
As Lilith said, a hundred wouldn’t take long.

Hard News: Moving from frustration to disgust, in reply to
I think JK actually believes that league tables ranked by shallow testing of a small subset of students’ abilities at only one point in time will really improve educational outcomes.
It's a banker's approach. The solution may come from data, but is not the data itself.

League tables are an unfortunate but inevitable consequence of attempting to definitively describe a child’s relative academic ability.
All stick, no carrot, IMhO. Once they find out there are significant gaps, what is the policy for addressing it, and where is the funding coming from in a zero budget?

It uses flash, but they have some proprietary stuff in there, although I'd have to look into it more to understand it.

That one would be a bit of a shock if you suffered from arachnaphobia though : )
Good point. I've added a warning. ;-)

This is where the Lytro could be nice.
Yep. Here’s one someone else prepared earlier. WARNING >> Arachnophobians may wish to think twice about clicking.

This might be a really really dumb question, Jackson, but I’m assuming that the Lytro isn’t made for the night?
No, not really. Gave it try, but not worth sharing,
ETA: Here's a lower light one of a piano using indoor lighting. You can start to see the grain.
And if you click on the hill…no wait, that won’t work. ;-)
This is a problem. I keep looking at the TV and thinking ‘if only I could click on that and make it sharper’.
