  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Rob S,

He is a creature that the Republicans brought into being with their racist and evangelical dog whistling and have only themselves to blame for what has been a hostile takeover by an outsider.

Yes. I have been thinking a lot on the story of Frankenstein's monster recently, although he was actually sympathetic and all the more tragic because of it.

Although not actually banned in the US at any point, I doubt 'Frankenstein' is on many repubs reading lists (not only written by a woman, but one of somewhat dubious morals, don'tchaknow). So perhaps something from their own favourite book:

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." - Galatians, 6:7

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Tom Semmens,

wild milita groups and crazy individuals might carry out random lynchings and attacks, but Clinton will have full control of and loyalty from the US military and governing apparatus at federal and state level. Nothing like succession, and therefore civil war, will come from this election.

I'd generally agree with you that there won't be anything like secession, but I would not be at all surprised if there is a very large upswing in the militia and random crazies types of activity. Yes, the military will swing in behind Hillary, albeit perhaps not entirely whole-heartedly at the level of many/a majority of the indivduals within it, because as an organisation it is a creature of the system that she is a part of.

However, at the local (non-federal) level of law enforcement (elected sherrifs and so on), there are a lot of trump supporters/hillary haters, who.....may not be entirely enthusiastic about reigning in or investigating that type of stuff. Or, even if willing to do so, may not have the resources (I read yesterday that due to budget cuts, some sherrifs departments no longer offer 24/7 9/11 response).

right-wing campaigns are overwhelmingly likely to use the tactics of junk email scams.....

...because they know they work with their voter base?

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs,

    So here's an interesting story:

    https://medium.com/@malki/in-february-i-subscribed-to-all-the-presidential-candidates-email-lists-d9b10ca77b4d#.7q5jnw50z

A strong correlation between the sort of people who fall for junk e-mail scams, and hard-right voters. Who'da guessed?

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Grant McDougall,

Is there a "Bat-shit crazy, whack-bar things Donald Trump is likely to say before election day" bingo card on the internet yet ?

I'm not entirely sure you could put anything on it that he hasn't already saidor done, unless you want to add a 'literally starts masturbating on stage' square. I mean, he's already said the election is rigged, and more-or-less called for armed insurrection. Where do you go from there? Eat a baby?

I personally find it really troubling that I can't bend my mind far enough to begin to understand how some people view the world.

Edit: individuals and outliers don't really bother me, but millions of people.....It's the kind of train of thought that if you ride it too far ends at 'am I the crazy one?' station.

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Russell Brown,

A Facebook friend has other FB friends who are conservative Americans....an imaginary narrative that millions of people now live within

It's a trip through the rabbit hole alright. I've seen one or two since the last debate where the response to Trump's 'she'd be in jail' bluster was all along the lines of 'hahaha, zing! Got her good! Never get tired of watching this!', etc.

I personally find it really troubling that I can't bend my mind far enough to begin to understand how some people view the world. The mental effort that goes into ignoring anything, no matter how glaringly obvious, that runs counter to a certain pre-set internal narrative, and inflating anything that might conceivably support that narrative miles beyond it's actual worth, is really scary.

    I've certainly heard worse.

There's a world of difference between an unrestrained 'I'd like to...', and 'Hey, this is what I actually do, because I can...'

Folks are right, this is how a lot of men brag to each other in private.

I have been a man amongst men for several decades, and I've heard my fair share of locker room blue talk. Trump's comments are several thousand kilometers over 'the line'.

I do have to wonder if we overthink that.

PS if you happen to be looking for some reading matter on this, I recommend Barbara Ehrenreich's 'Blood Rites'. A pretty decent overview of why we might still be fascinated by all this stuff.
