  • Cracker: Dig This!, in reply to Damian Christie,

It is called "bolting". You can continue to pick leaves but it is around this time that I pass them on to the bunnies next door.

I understand fruitflies only live 24 hours,
maybe you could try putting the clock in
    the kitchen forward

Daylight saving must really ruffle their feathers

coffee grounds and shredded copies of old computing magazines and software manuals.

If it were tea leaves, I guess it be old copies of NZWW or Hanover Finance annual reports?

  • Hard News: Where nature may win,

You can almost feel the palpable impatience amongst the population, urging rescue teams into the tunnel. In wake of the Chilean rescue and the continuous glare of media attention, we want the story to develop--or can't help thinking the worse?

He also names my daughter's English teacher as one of two Best Teachers (and bestows praise on Browser's Bookshop and the Frankton Market in Hamilton)

some people sprinkle cayenne pepper or paprika. around (makes the soil rather spicy). Best to cover seeds with chicken netting until they can fend for themselves.

Sound like nasty little bastards--and they have been here only since 2006. Our pests tend to be larger and winged--spent the afternoon putting bird netting over a promising crop of raspberries.

My general advice to anyone starting vegie gardening - experiment with different types and positions.

There you go, Russell. That should be sufficient inducement ;-)

  • Hard News: The Engagement,

    That was satire, right?

I thought so too--otherwise we are doomed. The British economy is going to be re-built on table doilies and bridesmaid bouquets ?

  • Hard News: I'm not a "f***ing cyclist".…,

I think you become more considerate and conscious, as a car driver, about bikes on the road, is when you do both. I am now rilly, rilly careful about checking before flinging open a car door.

  • Hard News: Healing the family feud,

@Russell. You did good stuff at the SPADA conference, asking the questions we all wanted to ask. Nevertheless, Coleman was another example of disappearing when there came question time from us in the back stalls.

The problem with promoting TVNZ7 as the default PSB (as much as I love TVNZ7) is that it does not yet fit a fundamental criteria of public service broadcasting. A public service channel should provide full and free access to the whole populace. Currently only about 26% of NZ h/hs have Freeview and although TVNZ7 appears on Sky, it is kind of lost on channel 97. The question I asked--which no one seemed to answer--is how are you going to raise the profile of 7 in the public consciousness?
