  • Hard News: Future shock for the media, in reply to Russell Brown,

It’s not like Wildfire makes anything or improves the human experience.

But isn’t that the new business model? work for work sake, money for God’s sake?
The whole mantra of “dole bludgers” and the undeserving getting their “hard earned money” for nothing and sending solo mothers out to “work” doing menial meaningless tasks is the exact opposite of the promise of the better future we were promised as a consequence of automated factories. That just threw the workforce on the scrapheap and created a new underclass.
The new “Movers and Shakers” are supposedly those that control the transport and logistics framework, that is the significance of the new roads but they are just the middlemen shifting the glittering prizes for the gullible consumer. Those that actually watch the adverts are the new commodity, the millions of suckers that buy the crap that the dealers wheel around on the roads we paid for.
    But wait, there’s more…
Do you know that Trade Me is now charging almost 7% as a sales fee when you sell that thing you no longer want or need?. TradeMe is mostly owned by Australian co. Fairfax, who are slashing jobs and cutting expenditure on print, who needs to sell advertising when Google does it for you?.

Somebody said to me many years back that “You cant live by doing each others washing” meaning that if there is no production of worthwhile goods then there is nothing gained so nothing earned, it’s just a money go round with those with their fingers firmly rammed in the pie clipping the ticket every time it passes their way…
    GRRRRR!!!!
    </rambling rant>
    Good night and god bless.
    ;-)

  • Hard News: Christchurch: Is "quite good"…,

    It’s cold, it’s August.

There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing… Sir Rannulph Fiennes said that, apparently.
    And…
    To paraphrase Martin Niemöller
First they came for the Cantabrians, but it was a bit nippy.

Concrete pills all round I reckon, get yer game face on, this ain’t the end game.

When they start knocking good new buildings down for one of their stupid sports stadiums with attached convention centre (containing a sports stadium with a convention centre inside it) before they address the suffering of those still having to use a portaloo, they are taking the piss.

To quote Howard Beale ( Peter Finch, in Network):
“I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad….”
"I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” …
    Start to bother these fuckers.
Phone them in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep for worrying, make them lose sleep.
Block up their mail servers demanding replies.
Fuck their fax machines with black faxes.
Stress them as much as they stress you.
    Don’t give up, GIVE HELL…

Steve: the million litres as I understand it was for EQR (the Fletchers subsidiary)

I thought it rather disingenuous of Brownpants to answer a question like"What are you doing about the rebuild of Christchurch" with "Well, we bought some paint"
    Sheesh.

Sorry Craig, I didn't see you there.
I understand this issue is a biggie for quite a few people but I also can see the timing of such an emotive piece of legislation muddying the waters to the advantage of those greedy fuckers who have just popped in to steal our shit and then bugger off to Hawaii.
We should be "once bitten twice shy" on this sort of rout but, once again, we are being told that greed is good and the villains are the heroes.
I see Allan Gibbs is gloating about his "Life of serious fun"
As for marriage, been there done that, twice, now I am just happy to have a life partner and bugger the law.
btw. Anyone that treats you as second class has no class at all.

  • Hard News: Christchurch: Is "quite good"…, in reply to Ed Muzik,

I think it says a lot about this government’s view on “green” issues – people called for a “green city” through share an idea, and so the government is saying “look – we listened!

Govt needs 5 million litres of paint for quake repairs
A rough calculation reveals that the area of the central city is around 2,000,000m²
Allowing for wastage, cleaning brushes and spray equipment a good quality paint should cover around 10m²/Ltr.
So, 25 coats? to paint the City green? seems a bit wasteful to me but then my maths were never that good.
Oh wait, I haven’t included walls but then there won’t be many of those once the demolition is finished.

I think the whole thing is a red herring myself, poisson rouge if you will. We really should be looking at more important things like asset sales or the threat to education by allowing non qualified teachers to teach creation to impressionable minds.

  • Up Front: The Up-Front Guides: The…, in reply to Lilith __,

However it’s one thing to say you can’t do things that are prohibited by law, and another to say that you must do things allowed in law

Its one thing to lobby parliament to change laws, another thing entirely convincing the Pope to allow gay marriage.
Its not a question of right or wrong, its a question of power and who has it.
