    Caution: Ducklings crossing.

Lake, boats, bridge, Longtan Park, Guomao Tower 3 (tallest building in Beijing) and Jianwai Soho in the distance.

No park is complete without a vintage jet fighter.

Don't know what kind of tree this is, but it seems to be trying to imitate those Norfolk pines and their crosses.

    ?power station cooling towers?

Yes. Coal fired, though, so not too scary in the "what if it goes bang?" sense, but certainly worrying in the "what is it doing to my daughter's lungs?" sense. And it's expanding. But we've got 20 million people at least to power in this city alone and nowhere near NZ's very fortunate abundance of renewables. But that park, and Beijing generally, does have plenty of PV panels sitting atop lamp posts, so it's not all bad news.

Thanks for your logs, they're helping cut down erosion, flooding, desertification and sandstorms up here.

Tree planting, China style. But look at that sky!

Great light and vivid colours thanks to the spring winds. And a high of 27, too.

Guanyin enjoying the sun. Something about the colouring on the wall makes it seem to my eyes like there are ghosts standing in front of it.

    And young, so young,

I've been doing my usual Anzac Day lesson this week. It's a certain kind of magic to tell my students that those soldiers were their own age when they lost their lives and see - physically see the expressions on their faces and the lights in their eyes - that little statement sink in.

Speaking of... ChrisW, either that is a 19 year old veteran pretending to be marble, or the sculptor was a magician of the highest order. Particularly in your close-up of his face, I see life, love, relief, mourning, pride, regret, and all to a degree that one should not be able to see in a child so young. I must get back to Gisborne one of these days; remind me to look up that statue and pay my respects when I do.

Well, it claims to have been donated by a district (Bezirk? My German is really, really rusty and I can't remember the actual wording) of Vienna. Does that help explain how it looks familiar?

Chaoyang Park is so awesome that even one Johann Strauss came to visit – and stayed.

And Berlin's Mitte district sent a bear (Berlin means "Little Bear") with the text, partially visible, "Berlin Mitte grüßt Peking Chaoyang".

Nevermind the streetscape, check out that sky, thanks to the spring winds.

Hasn’t been very summery today, what with a high of 8 (after really nice days earlier this week), but whatever…. only 2, but she already takes care of her own vaccination records.

And is busy reading up on how to stay healthy.
