Re Home v Hospital births
Dare I sugest we take another look at the death rate for new borns and the birthing mothers from the odd century ago and say "Thank You" to clean hands and evidence based medicine.
My family history (pre 1900) is stricken with deaths at 1 day to 6 months of babies and husbands on their third marriage 'cos the other two karked out in the delivery bed. It was almost normal.
I don't care which one is used. But I object to the parties involved not being fully educated and informed prior to proceedings and certainly wish that decisions are based for the care of mother and baby rather than fashion.
But what scares the hell out me the most is that the west expect perfection in "My Child". And it ain't necessarly so. And the more we understand that there is significant room for error on the part of nature and people the better we will come to terms with the results of the creation of Human Life.
With the reversal in the population of rural and city, the knowledge of "Life on the farm" and all that goes with it is being lost.
We need to replace it with something that still educates as well.
Any ideas?

On the subject of elective caesarians (another judgy one), one of the things that gets people going is the word "elective". It doesn't mean what many people think it means: too posh to push. It means that a caesarian is decided upon before the birth, generally for medical reasons like the baby's in breach position, as opposed to done in an emergency setting.
Joe Gyno: " I elect to go on holiday on Monday" or "I elect to go and play golf this afternoon".
A few years ago these were well worn comments on the when and why caesars were "performed".
Re breast or bottle. (From the Dad of 3 BFed girls who have turned out far better adjusted than their dear old Dad. Who house-husbanded them for 8-9 years from when the eldest was 6).
Their teeth are a shit load healthier. They seem to have cruised through illness "unopposed". Intelligence off the scale (JOKE but above ave). Of course....close to perfect. :-)
I can't help thinking that if our simple society cannot find a way to allow parentS to care for their children (for at least the first 2 years on at least a one to one basis) and not be penalised materially or career wise and then not expect to suffer increased crime, dysfunctional familes and more prisons, then we will continue to reap those 'rewards'.
It isn't gender, it isn't biology, it isn't feminism.
Maybe it's just a little evolved common sense.

I mentioned parenting because it seems to embody gender roles on which biology has a very significant impact.

Hey Gio.......excitable Italian reporter. Do you speaka da lingo? What are they saying???
Reminds me of pictures of a live dead Mussolini after he was strung up.
Re Cats:
Still, he's never got near a native bird
I doubt it Russell, just because you haven't had the privilege of seeing a dead native bird in his trap. Domestic cats (and prob as bad feral ones) take out a vast number of native birds, bugs and reptiles around town - and NZ for that matter. An example:

Um...weren't the Stones voted worst band of the 60's??? ahh age and taste. Everyone knows that kids have none.
