most of em think britney does write her insipid little songs,
I definitely remember a local out cry, and a british one,fact is it was a lie to the public, they were the scapegoat for a common practice (although never so blatantly pulled off) and then it was back to business as usual.
who here would rather pay $100 to go see a band mime to backing tapes rather than play the things properly live themselves.
given the choice in the plastic world I'd like them to make some attempt at conveying something of themselves to me, just a token gesture would surfice -

nut I'm pretty sure that one wasn't about hard life on the streets, although who could tell with that jumble of imagery. -
No one in this discussion has stated that. It is a long long time since I have heard anyone justifying their piracy with such a statement
I still see that sentiment expressed regularly. I saw 'authority' figure andrew dubber say just that on the nz radio site last year. Yes the 4 people commenting on this thread may not be saying that but it is a commonly used argument in the larger world, most often made by youff and one worth addressing.

A few of you're comments re ingrained deceptiveness probably don't read as love letters, and who could blame you.
As I said, I'm not a fan of em myself, but I can see them for what they are. -

the consumer very much does give a toss, which might explain the public outcry and ridicule of the 'band' that made them a worldwide joke.
almost all the music fans I know very much care when their being lied to. The new wave of low fi artists are taking it to extremes rejecting anything that sounds like it had a technically knowledgeable person involved in it.and on top of that I care that there is some degree of reality that goes into the sentiment of my music. my gag reflex goes mad when I see immaculately dressed teens miming to on multimillion dollar sets playing vastly expensive instruments bought for them by daddy singing about how hard their life is on the street.
content matters, not to everyone, but it really really does.

If you are talking MV? Really, the joke in all that was on the American industry.
well really the joke was on the music consumer who were dupped into believing those 2 guys in the videos and on the covers were anything much to do with the music that was coming out of the speakers.
Not a big transgression for those familiar with the makings of music, (the pretty face singing is only a small part of the equation but it makes it more manageable to focus on one or 2 key faces) but this instance pushed the envelope and lets face it, it was a straight out lie to the public which I think crosses the boundaries.
its as bad as putting some teen hunks face on your face book site. its primary aim is to deceive and there's too much of that allowed in the world to day as it is.does it really matter ?
yeah, I think it does, less tricks and lies in selling all kinds of products would be a good thing all round. There are regulations for that in advertising so supposedly MV broke those laws in presenting the 2 guys as the singers/musicians/producers of the content of the disc. Did Napier Bell have anything to do with MV? I'm sure he wouldn't put that on his CV

Its what I' do if I wanted to cut of the trade routes. shut off the roads, put boarder patrols up. people will still get through though, but less.not that you liked anything McGuniness said but it may all be irrelevant if it goes towards the subscription service model where you don't own any music, you just rent access to it. That way everyone has the biggest music collection in the world.
Now we'll have to contemplate what we're going to do about having the snob value of music removed. if everyone has everything then how can we look down our noses at those who don't have the rare b side to that obscure Norwegian bands 3rd deleted single. will anything be deleted?

As I've stated though, as a media consumer the free for all is lovely, but it was never going to last, and really it shouldn't, but enjoy it while it does.

hat's like saying that the first band to cut an album broke it for everyone else once the novelty wore off.
no that's like saying in the search for the new business model for music a system of honesty box which managed to turn one of the biggest indie bands around a profit but had a 65% no pay portion, it might pay not to put too much faith in that approach once the novelty of it has died down.

then there actually isn't anyone in the equation that needs to be happy.
only other people looking for new business models who don't happen to be radiohead with their large fan base and the advantage of being the novelty first.
