  • Hard News: Media3: Where is Broadcasting?, in reply to Sacha,

Recommend it for anyone who hasn't come along yet. Map here.

Hey, anyone recall what the building used to be? (it's obviously not new)... and is it the wall that used to bear the classic late 70's/early-mid80's graffiti that was so good it wasn't obliterated for around a decade? ("Zap is udder crap") (hint for those too young or forgetful to know/understand, Zap was a flavoured milk product)

  • Hard News: A few (more) words on The Hobbit,

Yeah, generally, I'm far more sympathetic to the workers and their demands from the boss classes than the other way around....

But when the organisation claiming to represent the workers isn't properly instituted, claims not to have actually called for a black-list... but then a day or two later, publicly lifts the black-list they claimed they handnt placed the day before... and also claims one of the main planks of their grievance is nudity clauses when theres no nudity in the particular movie they are using to leverage their (otherwise probably valid) claim...

It seems the actors , the hollywood movie houses, Peter Jackson and the Govt were all spinning or telling porkies to the public in one way or another... None of them smell of roses here...

The sky really did look like that. It’s a freaky place.

What? Sky Blue? I'm shocked.... never seen it like that before, anywhere...

  • Hard News: When "common sense" isn't, in reply to DexterX,

I can’t see that driving recklessly or driving impaired is any different – it is so incredilbly dangerous – the end result for the deceased is the same

Driving impaired is an interesting one... if you intend to drive impaired, before you are impaired... then your tenet holds true... If on the other hand, you go out, fully intending to get a ride home with a sober driver... and then, your capacity to evaluate your own condition becomes impaired through use of substances legal or not... while a decision to drive is bloody stupid... you could argue you were no longer in a position to accurately foresee the inevitability of a poor outcome... the fact that you are impaired means you cant necessarily predict what a sober or reasonable person could...

  • Hard News: When "common sense" isn't, in reply to Graeme Edgeler,

Intentionally stabbing someone is likely to kill them, so if they die it can still count as murder, even if you weren’t trying to kill them.

Which seems somewhat similar to a certain south-african sports star's current predicament... even if you didn't realise you were shooting your girlfriend (which, obviously, is being disputed)... surely firing a gun multiple times through a toilet door at a human is so likely to cause death as to constitute murder?

  • Hard News: The Wogistan form book, in reply to Lucy Stewart,

You want "airport security farce" ? I've got a doozy...

An acquaintance of mine in the NZ military... in transit between Darwin and Port Moresby.... had her nail clippers confiscated.... while being allowed to carry a loaded semi-automatic rifle over her shoulder....

If you're hell-bent on taking over a plane and threatening passengers or air-crew... are you going to use nail clippers when you've also got a gun at your disposal?

  • Legal Beagle: A four-year parliamentary term?, in reply to linger,

All of which is simply the tu quoque fallacy.
It doesn’t constitute a reason against doing something now.

It doesn’t constitute a reason not to act… but it does point out the hypocrisy of the recently voted out suddenly saying “this is a desperate issue that you simply must attend to, and you are big bad meanies if you don’t”

  • Hard News: The Next Act,

Well, I’m not going to comment on the content of seven sharp as everyone else has covered my thoughts pretty much..

But what’s with the fuzzy logo on the desk? Is it some sort of hipster laugh based on how it’s so not sharp at all? If so, it's only very mildly funny- like many other of the "jokes" that fell flat. If it's not intentionally fuzzy, they need to get some better graphics hardware to present the graphic-artists true intentions...

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Right back in there, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

thought it was Russ Le Roq…

I bow to your greater recall :) I was just starting high school at the time...

My older brother interviewed him for a radio-show that was produced by school students... possibly aired on ZM? A different high-schhol produced each week's show. Lynfield College did a show about activities (or lack of) for teenagers, so talking to the promoter of an under--age music venue was a good fit...
