well the art gallery is also strong enough to be the CD base, which hopefully encourages people to to think beyond their idea of city?

It would be great if the country was able to bring together a mini foo of sorts around urban planning and how best to help Christchurch rebuild in a timeless way.

Napier turned out as well as it does becuase it was down to (i think) 3 architects who re designed the entire city.

The benefit clawback rate would be cut from 70c for every dollar earned above $80 a week to 55c for every dollar above $20.

personally i see that as an encouragement not to even attempt working or to try and work more hours. On occasion i get above $80 a week and I'm fine with the current clawback after $80.

    @Danyl Mclauchlan

    thank you!
you made it simple, have been trying to explain my 'new future' situation to people and not being able to do it well. now I'm just using your description of my new life as an empowered no longer referred to as an invalid.

many invalids are like me we get reviewed medically every 2 years, in the hope that some miracle cure or recovery has occurred, becuase trust me, if i could get cured and off this thing i would be there in a flash. CURE ME!!!!!

ugh from my limited reading (the whole thing is more than my brain can process) it reads like a really bad self help book with words like 'empowerment' .

and since winz have in my past experience been incredibly bad at telling me what I'm eligible for benefit wise the idea of various flavours of supplementary payments sounds like clusterfuck waiting to happen

So he’s appointed a working group whose recommendations are “extreme” and make him “queasy”. Righto.

is it cynical to think 14 weeks is in there there so the government can seem benevolent when they set it at 3 years?

on the concept of tame GPS i used to see an independent GP every 2 years but winz stopped that last time i needed to be medically checked, i have no idea why you would stop independent checking by a 3rd party GP, unless that was a budget cut?

Also hands up anyone at winz longer than 2 years who had the same case manager? I get a new one every year who i only meet when i go in for financial review, some are good some are not so. One year my case manager was so awesome she lost all my forms and my benefit was stopped without any notice.

    So
today i am a mix of angry and scared
angry becuase i know this is all about money and numbers and not about what is best for a person or for their children. Granted some children might be better in day care than with their mum, most i suspect would not.

    personally I am scared
That after having tried work 3 times and finding that no matter what kind of work i do i can't manage it, and end up on the invalids benefit again. Scared that this report is going to force me into doing the one thing that is confirmed to screw with my mental and physical health.

Because i know i can't work traditionally (i can be good one day/week/month) bad the other. I'm slowly attempting to build my own business that works around my health in the hope that one day i will make enough to become benefit free. My case manger last year and my manager the year before were ok with that, but what if new rules make this unable to be ok.

maybe i'll be ok but i don;t see that happening.

becuase i hate flying i always treat myself to a book or magazine from whitcoulls at the airport and they have a great jigsaw puzzle collection.

For Craft books, borders are the only place I'm lucky enough to find them, normally i have to go online, and even then i try and go online with fishpond (even tho they are sometimes extremely patchy with deliveries) becuase it's nz based.

but mostly i don't buy books becuase it's an expensive thing to do so i use the library.

I wonder when all the ereader fankids will begin their joyful sequels that this is the death of the the book?
